After four months, it is finally time to go back to the U.S. of A. I really don’t want to leave and I’m afraid that this will all feel like a dream. But, anyway, here’s a brief overview of why I don’t want to go home.
Dort Dort Dort Dort Dort
Dort is the Czech word for cake. The cake in Prague is to die for -- it is normal to take a pause in your day and sit down for coffee and cake. No one here is watching his or her figure, so you can have your cake and eat it too.
It’s A Pop-Up Book
It inspired the Disney logo. So, basically, Prague is Disney. Even after having lived here for four months it still feels like I’m living in a fairytale. Every time that I see a tower I wait for Maleficent to come swooping in. She hasn’t yet, though.
The Jamz And Klubus
The music scene here is off the chain! There are amazing music venues that cost a maximum of around $10 to get in and you can see the coolest bands and DJs on the rise. That's not to mention that you can dance like a total freak and fit in.
Humility
I’m a little afraid to go back to Emory’s consumer culture because the focus here is definitely not on materialism.
Beer
It’s a dollar. It’s amazing. It’s everywhere. It’s a dollar. It goes with anything here -- from a good conversation with your friends to fried cheese. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned that it’s a dollar. You can also go to a beer bath where you bathe in beer. It's awesome, but it's not a dollar.
The Babies
There are a lot of babies here -- like, a lot. They all just chill in their cute little carriages without whining like American babies or they run around in little jumpsuits in parks. It’s a good thing that I am not a creepy looking person because I have spent too much time admiring Czech bambinos.
Say Cheese
Cheese is in your heart, soul, and mind. Smazeny Syr (Fried Cheese) is where it is at. It's a giant mozzarella stick that will give you wings.
The Bridge Over Untroubled Water
The Dali Lama said that the center of the Charles Bridge is the most peaceful spot in Europe and it’s true. If you don’t believe me, take the Lama’s word for it. You get the best view of the Vlatava river, which is arguably the most beautiful in the whole wide world.
Coffee
When you’re done at a coffee shop in New York they kick you out because your fat tush is taking up precious time and space. Here, you can stay as long as you want and every cappuccino has a cool leafy heart design.
Christmas
The Christmas markets are unreal and will get you plump and insulated for the winter. The horka cokolada (hot cocoa) is melted chocolate.
People
To be cliché, the people are what make the city. Czech people have been through a lot in the last century and so has their culture. There is something so unique about the people here. They have such an interesting perspective on life that I never would have considered. I will definitely be taking home some of there cultural traditions like forcing men to be chivalrous and valuing family time and my elders more, but I will not bring back the tradition of omitting deodorant usage from my daily hygienic routine.
