In honor of spring break, I've compiled a list of things that you would receive at home but (possibly) never at college.
1. Chores
I don't know about you, but the first thing I did when I got home for spring break was household chores. This is not because I am a germaphobe; my parents (and sister) "just happened" to plan a spring cleaning of our house during my break from school.
Now, on the flipside, living at college would require me to do the most minimal tasks, such as taking out the trash or sweeping the dorm floor. Sometimes, I forget to do one or the other (or both) for more than a few days at a time.
2. Real food
Don't get me wrong, college food is (somewhat) edible, but after awhile, you get extremely sick of it. In fact, your first homesickness may be just about your cravings for your mom's homemade ribs with delicious sides. The pain is even worse for students who come from households that enjoy a wide variety of dishes from different cultures.
3. Being able to shower without shower shoes
I cannot tell you enough how much I enjoy showering without shoes on. In addition to that, I can cherish the privacy I get to have in my own bathroom that I don't have to share with 25 other girls.
4. A comfy mattress
Not sure how long my college has used the same beds for each freshmen class, but from what I can feel (when I lay down at night), those beds must be at least 15 years old. Not to be dramatic, but I can totally feel the metal springs in the bed poking my back when I try to sleep. At home, I would never have this problem since I am the only person who gets to sleep on my bed over the years of the bed's product life span.
5. Family
No matter where you go in life, you'll always have many opportunities to make new friends. However, your friends will never be able to replace your family. So by the time you get used to your new surroundings, you'll end up missing your family the most.
