Things that happen to retail workers during the Holidays

'Tis the season to be jolly, well for some of us in the retail industry that is not always the case. I know that working in clothing is probably one of the hardest jobs. So during this holiday season these are some of the things that go through our minds. Bear in mind that we do love our jobs and that is why we go to work everyday.

1. Christmas music.

I for one hate that Christmas music starts in November, I hate even more that I have to stand at work for hours on end listening to Christmas music. Its not even good music.

2. Clearance

Yes these items are on clearance that's what those red tickets are for. No I will not check to see if it can be marked down more than what it already is marked down.

3. "How are you doing?"

If I come up to you and ask how you're doing I would hope that you would answer me instead of blowing me off. Maybe you're having a bad day but I promise you're day isn't much worse than mine because of people being rude.

4. Put stuff back where you got it.

This is probably my biggest pet peeve now. I have to clean up behind you so at least do everyone that works in retail a favor and put it back where you found it. I found that I hate having to clean up behind people so I put the stuff back where it goes when I go shopping so that others won't have to clean my mess.

5. Control your kids.

Okay so I get that little Timmy wants to look at the toys but you should be watching him. Don't let them play with things that can break because I guarantee that they will break.

6. Ask how our day is.

If you just ask how a person how their day is i guarantee that it will make them happy. It puts a smile on my face when a customer takes time out of their day to have a conversation with me. There's this grandmother and granddaughter that come into my work every weekend and the granddaughter is always dressed in a princess dress, this weekend she was Cinderella. They showed me pictures from their trip to Disney World, and they make it a point to speak to me every time they come in the store. It makes my day at work genuinely better.

This sounds like a rant but really it's not. I love my job and the people that I work with. Most days I don't want to be there but then I think about how much I look forward to seeing everyone and all of the things that we get in the store. I couldn't ask for a better job.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
