With autumn approaching quickly we all get in the mood to drink pumpkin flavored coffee, wear sweaters, and watch scary movies. But there is so much more to do in and around a college campus than just the basic fall things. This particular bucket-list is catered to UNH but can be replicated anywhere! Embrace your inner fall and check off some of these fun things to do in this beautiful season.

1. Tailgate At A Football Game

Whether you like football or not you cannot deny the fun of tailgating before a game. It's such a fun time with friends or family! UNH homecoming is approaching so if you've never tailgated before this would definitely be the time to bundle up and try it!

2. Go Apple Picking

Apple picking is something my family and I always did together so being away at college I don't want to stop that tradition! There are so many apple orchards near UNH such as Emery Farm in Durham, DeMeritt Hill Farm in Lee and Applecrest Farm Orchards in Exeter. Take some time this fall and go apple picking because spending time outside is a de-stressor from classes!

3. Make Apple and/or Pumpkin Treats With Friends

Food and friends? What more convincing could you need? Spend some quality time with your friends at college, it's a great way to get to know people living in your hall or your roommates! Plus, food is always an incentive.

4. Carve Pumpkins

If you think of autumn without thinking of carving pumpkins, did you actually grow up in New England? This was something I was loved as a child and something I would love to continue to do in college. Make a day of it with friends! Here are some local pumpkin patches near UNH that you could go to Emery Farm and Coppal House Farm in Lee.

5. Go To A Fall Festival

Fall festivals are the best! Search your local area and see if there are any kind of festivals going on, odds are there will be! In Somersworth (approximately 25 minutes from UNH) there is a pumpkin festival! This event is held on the second weekend of October starting at 10 am until 4 pm and only $12 per person.

6. Shop At A Farmers Market

On Saturdays, until November 4 Portsmouth holds a local farmers market. Farmers markets are so awesome because they provide seasonal products from local farms and sellers! Go with friends on a Saturday morning (8am-1pm) and get some fresh local products!

7. Watch A Movie Outdoors

UNH hosts a few different outdoor movies- or if you're feeling ambitious take your laptop outside, bring a bunch of blankets, and have a movie night! Spend as much time outside while you can before it gets too cold outside!

8. Stargaze

Many people may not know this but UNH has its own observatory that students can use anytime! If you're bored on a clear night go to the observatory or head to an open field with some blankets and just relax and talk with friends.

9. Go Hiking

Spending time in nature during the autumn is just breathtaking. New Hampshire (as well as many other locations) have beautiful mountains and trails available to hikers! If you want to get away for the day definitely go hiking.

10. Make A Photo Album

This may not be that "traditional" fall thing to do but it's a great way to remember all the memories you made throughout the year and loop back on all the fun things you did this fall!

11. Take A Walk

Living at UNH is amazing because whenever you want to step away from reality for a bit or just the busy campus head into college woods for a breather, it's breathtaking in the fall! As you're outside I'm sure you'll witness science classes and/or ROTC spending time there as well.

12. Binge Watch Halloween Movies

If you love scary movies-unlike me- here is a list for you and your friends to binge watch as Halloween nears. Even if you don't like getting scared these movies are always a way to spend time with friends and a way to make memories!

13. Go On A Hayride

Another way to spend time in nature is going on a hayride! Lots of apple orchards and pumpkin patches offer hayrides for a fair price. If you're braver than I am, go on a haunted hayride at night for even more fun.

14. Go To A Halloween Party

The struggle of finding a good Halloween outfit is real, but it's so worth it!

15. Relax

Finding time to relax with a busy schedule is so important! Between your classes go lay out on T-Hall Lawn-or any quad, and just enjoy yourself.

Happy Fall!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
