Things Everyone Who Can't Eat Gluten Understand Too Well

Not eating gluten is a decision everyone with gluten sensitivities make daily but does not mean we like some of them.

People who can eat bread take bread for granted. That sentence may sound harsh but for those of us with a gluten sensitivity can agree that the "Gluten free life" is rough. We are broke, annoyed (by the lack of gluten free food option choices), and we are tired of hearing "Can you even eat that?". Here are a few things every one who cannot eat gluten understands too well.

1.) If you found out later in your life than earlier that you can't eat anything with gluten you still crave every grain of goodness you seem to be missing

Although you know what eating that piece of pizza, cake, or piece of toast will do to you you still crave your old favorite dishes and give your heart and soul to staying on your gluten free diet.

2.) You dread when someone asks what actually happens when you eat gluten

Well,I would love to tell you about my mental health complications and how my digestive system reacts with any amount of gluten I eat buuuut I do not think you would enjoy that gory story.

3.) You hate having to check the labels for everything and hate to ask the waiter at every restaurant you go to if the dish you order is really gluten free or not.

Having a sensitivity to gluten you understand way too well that although something says that it's gluten free it may not actually be. And when you go out to eat you are stuck either a), ordering a salad b), a burger with no bun, or c) begging to see the ingredients of the gluten free noodles the restaurant has (even though it's an extra $2). There will be no wheat, rye, or barley will be ingested today!

4.) The feeling you get when someone brings a gluten free dish for you to eat

I just love friends who are aware and are sensitive of gluten intolerance and will spend the extra money on you to buy food you can actually eat .

5.) Also, the feeling you get when you accidentally eat gluten

So basically I mean the feeling of utter regret and sadness.

6.) Or, the feeling you have to avoid when someone asks "Do you just not eat gluten so you can loose weight?" or claim that not eating gluten is just a fad.

People do have gluten sensitivity. People wouldn't ask a person with a milk allergy why they do not drink milk or ask a diabetic why they do not eat sugar and have to ingest insulin. If I were trying to lose weight I would work out but i appreciate the concern!

7.) You have to bring your own food to some events

At functions you are forced to attend you just automatically stuff some food you can eat in your purse before leaving the house.

8.) You are extremely broke from buying gluten-free everything.

Apparently food companies love to up the cost of everything. You know you have to pay the cost of your food but can't help giving a glare to the $1.92 bread loaf as you have to grab the even smaller $5.70 loaf.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
