There are many things in life that puzzle me, many things I don't understand. Most of the time I just go about my time ignoring the things I don't understand but sometimes I stop to try and understand them. I usually just end up giving myself a big headache. Today, I wish to share some of the things I don't understand in the world.
1. How some people don't understand humility.
It amazes me that there are people in the world that don't understand how to be humble. There are some people in the world whose first action is to rub in the achievements of themselves over others. We all know the kind of person I am talking about. These are the people who in school would make it vocally evident they got a better grade on an assignment than you. These are the type of people who always have to showboat and over celebrate in sports. These are the type of people that I just don't understand. I don't understand how some people think they are all superior and have to let everyone know. These are the people that need a reality check. No one cares if you did better on a test, or made an amazing play in sports, or if you have more wealth than someone else. These people need to understand we are all human and we will all be put in coffin someday.
This is a picture of Odell Beckham Jr., a professional wide receiver for the New York Giants. He is, in my opinion, the exact opposite of humility. He is the first to rub his accomplishments in your face and showboat after every play he makes. He, in my opinion, is a disgrace to the game of football and the exact opposite of the definition of humility.
2. Why some people depend on drugs and alcohol to have a good time.
I see this a lot, especially at college. There are some people in the world just can't have a good time in anything they do unless they get high or drunk. I understand having a drink can make a situation more lively and I do agree with that. This statement is aimed more at the type of people who can't have fun until they fail a breathalyzer, or until you smell smoke on their clothes. I don't understand why these people are dependent on these substances to have a good time. There are many a ways to have fun and enjoy yourself without being intoxicated or high. I myself enjoy hanging out with my friends or playing video games online. But these types of people seem to only have fun if they are intoxicated or high. It's as if they are dependent on the drugs to even crack a smile, which is actually pretty pathetic. These people need to understand there are other ways to enjoy yourself than just abusing drugs.
3. People who skip class and complain that they fail.
This statement is aimed directly at college students. If you have been to college than chances are very high you have met someone who has complained about failing a class even though they never attended the class once. I personally don't understand this at all. You are paying to go to college, so why waste your money to skip class. If you skip class, there is very little chance you will learn any of the material that will be tested on and your end result is that you will fail. I don't understand how these people think they won't fail when they haven't attended a single class or learned a single piece of testable material.
4. Why textbooks are so damn expensive.
My tuition runs me around $7,000 at my university per semester, and on average that is about where tuition runs for the country. Obviously some people have higher or lower tuition. The point being that an average semester of college is already very expensive, I don't understand why textbooks just have to jack up the price of college. An average, text books might run you $200 if you buy it from a major company. If you buy it online, it may be a tad cheaper but it will still be way too expensive. College students are stuck though, because they need these books in order to do well in their classes so they are forced to buy them for ridiculous prices. I don't understand why textbooks have to be expensive. I guess it just proves once again that money is the root of all evil.
5. Why some people talk so openly about money.
I was taught, as a young boy, that you should never talk about money in any form: how much you make, how much you spend, how much you owe, etc. I was always told it was bad social etiquette to talk about money. If someone ever asked my parents how much money they made, they would always respond, "enough to pay the bills." That is a trait I have adopted as well. That is why I don't understand these people I meet who talk so openly about money. I meet people who go around stating their annual salary as if it means nothing to them. I don't understand these people. I just wonder if no one has ever taught them that it is improper to talk about money.
These are just some of the things I don't understand. There are many more, but I think my fingers would fall off If i spent all day typing them out.
