Spread the word to end the word that those with a disability are any less than a "normal" person. Who are we to say who is and who is not normal? We live in a society where someone who steals, cheats, and kills can be normal, but someone who is happy, loving, and kind is not. A disability is not what we should define people by, rather, their abilities and who they are as a person. I have spent two weeks of the past five summers at a camp very near and dear to my heart, Camp Hope. Camp Hope is a day camp meant for any child with a physical and/or cognitive disability ages five through sixteen. Camp Hope has completely changed my life. Those people that you view as "lesser" are the same people who have taught me to be a better person; they have taught me to love more, be nicer, and to just smile. Someone with a disability is no different than the rest of us; we are all just people, and people were put on this earth to love one another, not judge each other. So before you write off someone who is different from you, get to know them, befriend them. I promise you, it will make you a better and happier person. "The things that make me different are the things that make me me" (Piglet, Winnie the Pooh). And who are we to say one different is better than another?
