Things you miss when you leave long island:
1. The Food
No matter where you go, no bagel or slice of pizza will ever live up to the place you grew up around the corner from. People will always try to convince you that the pizza is great in your college town and that the bagels out of the package that you get from Tops are just as good as what you are used to, but they just don’t get it.
2. The Weather
Having four distinct seasons is a luxury you've become accustomed to. Leaving Long Island means sacrificing those glorious seasons to experience winters that feel like something foretold by Ned Stark.
3. Not Hearing the Stereotypes
Yes, Long Island girls love their Ugg boots and black leggings and yes we treat pumpkin spice anything like it’s its own food group but that doesn't mean that you have to point it out all the time. We get that our excitement over Starbucks is silly but it's the way we are and judging us for it won't help.
4. The LIRR
Every city has public transportation but the ability to get into Manhattan after just a 40 minute train ride is amazing. There's nothing quite like the freedom to get around like the LIRR provides you with.
5. The Beach
Living on an island means that the ocean is all around you. Lakes are great but they don't even compare to the scent and sound of the ocean, and even though it's cold there are very few things as beautiful as when it snows on the beach.
6. The People
As much as many of us will deny it, Long Island is our home and we actually do love it there. We may be known for being rude but we all get each other. The best of all is that everyone knows what you’re talking about when you say “The City.”
