Let's face it, being in a relationship can get boring.
As much as you love and care for your boyfriend or girlfriend, after a while, you end up in a routine... Coming home after a long day and collapsing on the couch to watch "The Office" on Netflix. Ordering from the same Thai place you always order from and Postmates-ing it because you are too lazy to leave their house. Getting ready for bed then going straight to sleep because you have an early morning.
Sound familiar?
Whether it is just you being boring or the relationship getting boring, either way, boring is boring, and I'm tired of it.
So here is a list of ways to help get you out of your relationship "boring funk."
1. Explore a new part of town
Take a bus and just go. Get up, leave your couch and go to that hip bar across town. Go for a movie and dinner for a nice night out on the town. There are other neighborhoods out there. Go enjoy them!
2. Try a new activity
Crossword puzzles. Coloring. Basketball. Concerts. Museums. Picnic.
Literally try anything and everything.
3. Experience new foods
Last year, my boyfriend and I got stuck in a pho phase. But why is that bad? Pho is so damn good.
Until you have it twice a week for ten weeks.
Literally, try any food you can. Try a different restaurant every time you go out. Go somewhere you've never been before. Skip the same cuisine two times in a row. Just had Thai? Try Italian or burgers. Just had pizza? Try sushi or Indian. There are so many amazing restaurants you don't even know could be your new favorite. Try, try, try!
4. Watch something different
Instead of "The Office" watch "The Haunting of Hill House." Try a movie instead of a TV Show. Instead of a comedy, watch a drama. Instead of watching TV, watch YouTube videos. My personal favorite that I just discovered is Dog Eating ASMR videos on YouTube. Listen to a podcast together.
There are literally thousands of titles you can watch, read, or listen to together. Utilize your resources instead of watching that same Office episode again for the sixth time.
5. Cook/bake together
Cookies, nachos, chili, or even sushi! Look up some fun recipes of a food you're craving and just try it. Make it together and eat it! Nothing brings people together more than eating.
6. Take a walk.
Just a change of scenery can really spice things up. If you can't explore a new part of town and take buses, walk around where you are. Whether it's around the block, down the street, or just aimlessly around until you get tired, walking around can be a fun experience that can give you new things to talk about and new things to observe.
7. Take a class together
Salsa dancing, cooking, or painting classes can be so fun—alone, and especially with your boo! Whether you want to be literally swept off your feet with dancing (salsa, tango, waltz, and swing are always good choices) or you want to learn how to create a world together, embrace your inner Bob Ross and better yourselves together!
8. Do something you'd never do
Find an activity or show you'd never do. Go to a strip club or an improv show. Get embarrassed together or just have some fun.
Just yesterday, my boyfriend and I bought tickets to go to a Monster Truck show! No, I have never seen one or even thought of seeing one in my life, but you only live once, and why not?
9. Buy a board game
Even if it's simply chess or monopoly, a board game can be a nice change from just watching Netflix. You have to interact with each other, but also has a fun and competitive spin on it!
My boyfriend and I bought a couple of board games on a spontaneous trip to Target one day. Ever since, whenever we see board games for sale, we always take a moment to see which ones would be the most fun. Our favorites are Century Spice Roads and Photosynthesis!
10. Hang out with more people
Sometimes just being around the same person can get boring because you know everything there is to know about them. You've learned how they're going to respond to you or what jokes they'll laugh at. Things get boring.
If you don't want to spend time alone or you do, but you also want to spend more time with your boo, get a group together. Hang out with your friends and their friends. Take a group bowling or to dinner. Invite a bunch of friends to a fun concert or even something as small as ice cream. It can be fun to see your boyfriend interact with other people and you won't get bored with just spending time with them.
11. Work out together
I hate working out, but what could make it a little more tolerable? Doing it with someone you love! Spice up with your workout routine and aspire to be one of those fitness couples that do pushups on each other and do amazing yoga poses together. Plus you'll both get fit!
12. Find new ways to show them you love them
My friends and I were talking about what our love languages were the other day, and it got me thinking... how does my boyfriend want to be loved? After making him take the quiz, I noticed acts of service was what he preferred and made it a point to show him how much I loved him through washing the dishes and picking up some groceries on my way to his house. In return, for my quality time love language, he offered to spend more time with me and do more things with me.
