The first year of college can be very scary for a lot of freshmen.

You are away from home, around new people and in a new environment. It can be frightening because everything seems so big and there is so much to figure out. It is always good to ask questions, but no matter how many questions you ask there will always be some things you have to experience on your own.

Here are 11 things no one tells you about.

1. You will eat alone.

Even though your freshman year will be full of meeting new people and meaningful friendships sometimes you will eat alone. Everyone has different schedules and sometimes you won't be able to eat with your friends. Eating alone isn't as bad as it seems though, you will enjoy the peace and quiet every once and awhile.

2. High School study habits will not work.

Unlike high school, if you do not turn in your assignments on time there will be a penalty. Usually, that penalty is a zero. There is absolutely no room for slacking in college. Professors do not tolerate it.

4. Friends will fall off.

Your first year you will meet so many people. As you progress through your college career, many of these friends will fall off. Some friends will transfer to other schools, drop out or maybe you realized that they weren't good for you. Your closest friends will always be by your side though.

5. Your choices will affect next four years.

A lot of students don't realize that what they do in their first year has a direct correlation to the next year. If you mess up in your classes this year, it will affect you for the next 3 years.

6. You'll get homesick, even if you didn't think you would.

Even though you will enjoy the freedom of living in your own place, you will miss home at times too. Especially if you haven't been away from home for a long period.

7. You will be Ramen Noodled out.

Ramen noodles will become a staple. They are quick and easy but get disgusting FAST!

8. Sleep will become your best friend.

With college equals sacrifice and you will appreciate every bit of sleep that you get.

9. Finals week= sacrifice.

Finals week is hectic. You will barely see your friends and will have to give up sleep to be in the library.

10. You will try to avoid laundry. It will backfire.

Doing laundry will become a hassle for you especially since everyone else will be trying to do their laundry too. Make sure you grab your clothes in time because they might end up on top of the washer or on the floor.

11. You will cherish home cooked meals.

College is great but let's be honest the food is horrible! When you go back home, you will be happy that you will get to have a hot seasoned meal.

12. Rate my professor will dictate your life choices.
