Things Children of Worriers Understand

Having parents that hover can be a hassle. Or is it secretly a blessing in disguise?

Things Children of Worriers Understand

1. There Is Never “Just Telling a Story”.

“We went to the beach today!”

“You didn’t take the highway did you? You know how I feel about those crazy drivers!”

“So do you not want to hear about my beach day or…?”

2. Wasting Phone Battery and Data with Tracker Apps

There’s nothing better than getting a random “Why are you in that neighborhood text” when you’re out with friends. No mom, I’m not seeing my drug-dealing boyfriend, just Nancy.

3. Never Being Able to Travel

“I want to go to Europe with my friends this summer.”

“It’s so dangerous though. Have you heard of ISIS? What if you die? What if your friends die?”

“So that’s a no then?”

4. Taking a Sick Day is Always The End of The World

I get it; our grades can drop when we don’t go to class. But how much will I actually learn if I can’t breathe or see because I feel like I’m dying of the plague?

5. When You Do Actually Lose Something, You Can Never Admit It

“When is your credit card?”

“I left it in my desk for safe keeping.”

Jk, definitely lost it and ordered a new one last week.

6. Making New Friends is Almost Impossible

When you bring someone over that your parents don’t know, they get the endless third degree. If they don’t know what they want to do or where they want to raise their children, you might as well kiss them goodbye.

7. The Worst Part? Now You Worry About the Same Things.

You transfer your various worries onto your unsuspecting friends that don’t even see these as concerns.

8. The Best Part? Now You Worry About the Same Things.

But you always stay safe, even when you do risky things. You know better and know how to handle life. So thanks for being a worrier, Mom. I know how to be responsible and act like an adult(ish).

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
