Being a camp counselor is one of the most rewarding summer jobs there is. You could be flipping burgers somewhere, but yet you have decided to be a role model, a leader, a care giver... a camp counselor. You are in charge of making sure that not only are your tiny humans safe, but also having the best summer ever! As a camp counselor, we understand that some days are better than others. However, we would not want to spend our summer any other way.
Here are some things camp counselors can relate to, as told by "Grey's Anatomy..."
Your alarm clock goes off bright and early. You have not had enough sleep so you heavily rely on caffeine.
You get to work and instantly become overwhelmed with how many kids are already there at 8 a.m.
Seeing your fellow counselors and having the opportunity to have an actual conversation with an adult helps you survive the day
You can't help but bring out your competitiveness when playing games with the campers
You also can't help but smile when you win... but then you remember you beat a group of 10-year-olds, so did you really win?
At lunch time, you try to watch the kids from a safe distance so you can have a little quiet time...
But you always have that one kids that tells you something super fast, and you have no idea what they're saying so you just pretend to listen
You always have that awkward period of down time between activities and you have no idea what to do and the kids are just staring at you
Some days seem so much longer than others... everything is going wrong and you just want to go home
When the same kid keeps asking you the same question over, and over, and over again and you're trying not to snap
When your kids are not listening, and you and your co-counselor have tried everything
During head counts, face counts, and buddy checks and you get the right number on the very first count
You realize kids do and say the weirdest things and sometimes you're not quite sure how to react
But then one of your kids tells you that you are their favorite counselor
When you have that one camper who is very touchy and you have had enough
You know you love your kids as if they were your own
It is finally time to go home and all of the counselors survived another day at camp
...and you would not want to trade your job for anything because all of the stress is worth it when you see the kids smiling!
