10 Things All Shopaholics Can Relate To

Retail therapy isn't easy or cheap, but we do it anyway.

Retail therapy, the best kind of stress reliever - at least for shopaholics. It's not easy being one so here are some of the hardships us shopaholics face.

1. Shopping genuinely makes us happy

Splurging a couple hundred dollars on a purse or outfit is a sacrifice we are willing to make if it makes us happy.

2. "I deserve it" is our number one excuse

Sometimes we do listen to our conscious and feel hesitant on buying things but somehow we always convince ourselves that we deserve this. 10 minutes of studying? You go girl; buy yourself a new pair of shoes. Even thinking about working out? It's the though that counts; buy a purse!

3. You learn to hide receipts

You can't lie to your mom about the "$10 flannel" that was actually $50 if she finds a receipt. So you learn to keep a hidden stash full of receipts.

4. You get a little offended each time you see your bank account

I mean, we know we do it so we aren't THAT shocked, but it's still shocking to see how low the numbers can add up so fast.

5. You become a ghost sneaking in

My number one rule when shopping is to bring the largest purse you own. That way you can fit as many shopping bags in that purse and walk in with minimal bags. Forget your big tote? The garage is your next best friend.

6. You like to shop alone

Shopping with friends is a blast, if you want to skim. If you want to go full blast? You know shopping alone is the most efficient way; you don't want anyone to slow you down.

7. You get an adrenaline rush

Each time you step into a mall you can feel your heart beat faster and you get sweaty hands because baby, I'm home!

8. You get anxiety when you don't shop

Sometimes you get a little anxious and nervous when you haven't shopped in a while. You think about the sales you might have missed and the updated clothes you haven't seen and you might drive yourself mad.

9. You can spot a designer from a mile away

Whether it's meeting a new person or seeing someone passing by, the first thing you notice is the clothes they are wearing. Cute boy with a Goyard Saint Sulpice card holder? Brownie points!

10. We forget we're college students

Most of us college students are living on a budget. Sometimes we compromise between a night out and a new pair of shoes. The deciding factor? The night will end but the shoes will stay forever!

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
