For a long time, I really wanted to get out of the dorms as fast as I could. I hated having to always sign in and answer to an RA. I'm pretty sure most college students feel the same way. But, after 3 years of living in dorms, I have really come to like it.

1. Close to everything

Whether you're leaving for class with 5 minutes to spare or need to make a 1 a.m. trip to Walgreens, dorms are right it the middle of everything. No car? No problem. You're right next to everything you need.

2. No hidden fees

The short time I lived in off-campus housing, I was threatened with extra charges multiple times. Once because they misplaced my keys after I moved out.

Another time because they decided they wanted to renovate and if we didn't have everything moved out by the end of the week- we would have to pay for them to an it. When living in a dorm, you can almost always be assured that things like this won't happen.

3. No need to buy furniture

When you're 18 and it's your first year in college, do you really want to have to buy all new furniture?

Can you afford it?

A better question is, think back to when you were a freshman — would you want freshman you choosing the furniture that you would be stuck with for the next few years.

The nice thing about dorms is that all the furniture is already provided, set up and ready when you move in.

4. Safety

Even though having to sign in at the front desk every time you walk in might be annoying, it does ensure your safety. You never really have to worry about a stranger breaking in because even if someone did try, campus security would be there immediately.

5. Free stuff

This is pretty basic, but dorms always offer free laundry and most dorms also give out free toilet paper.

Obviously, there are some downsides to living in the dorms, but I think the positives really outweigh the negatives. I will probably end up living in a dorm all four years of college.

So, before you decide that off-campus living is for you, make sure you're giving dorm life a fair chance. You might come to find that you really love living in the dorms.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
