So They Voted for Trump

They say our country is more divided than ever, and by now you’re probably tired of hearing it. Of course, I’m not sure we’re as divided as we were during the civil war, but the two party system has blown out of proportion and this election proved it. The moment someone who relates with the Democratic Party hears a person is Republican, they turn away in disgust. The moment a person who relates with the Republican Party meets a Democrat, they do the same thing. This is the largest and most polarizing form of discrimination that is current in today’s world. We are discriminating each other based on a title. I call out to all of my Bernie Bro’s with this, my Hilary supporters and my left wingers. How similar does this sound to discrimination against religion, race, gender, or sexual orientation? These are the things we hate to exist, and yet we are immediately labeling someone as misogynistic, racist, and bigoted because they chose the label, Republican. Is this really how we want to live?

I don’t agree with Trump’s standards and I did not vote for him but I am a registered Republican. This does not mean I am racist, misogynistic, or a bigot. My friends, this is where labels have gotten us.

I have family and friends whom I love dearly and always have. They voted for Trump, but I cannot hate them. I may disagree with them but I’ve always loved them for everything else. There are other reasons people may vote for a candidate such as Trump. If anything the people who did vote for him could guide us through these next four years. They found something within him that we couldn’t. And personally, I feel that if the two candidates were able to say something nice about each other, we should be able to do the same thing. And please, there is no need for blaming. President Trump’s choices are his, even if someone voted for him, they did not make his choices. We must remember this.

This election process hurt a lot of people. Friendships and families were broken. It gave a lot of us stress and distraction from our daily lives. I know a lot of us are upset with the results but I will say right now that I hope Trump is a good president, because we’re all in this bandwagon together now. This is how our democratic situation works. We vote and whoever gets the vote wins. And as disappointing as it may be, we’re in this together now. Hate isn’t going to get us anywhere. This is still America and you should still stand for what you believe in.

This election unveiled a lot for the United States. It was revealed that racism, misogyny, and discrimination still exist. It showed us that literally anyone can become president now and we can do something about it. It showed how corrupt government can actually be. And it showed how big of a hole this two party system dug us in. We are not red or blue, we are humans and we are American citizens.

So what if your family or friends voted for Trump? Give them a hug and remind them you love them, because what this country really needs right now is a little love and a little unity.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
