It Is More Than Just The Letters

My Home away from home

At the beginning of my freshman year, I had no intention of joining Greek life. I had always liked the idea of a group of people to lean on, but I was too scared to take the leap and go through the process. I talked to a few of the sisters throughout my first semester and quickly realized that the girls in this organization were some of the most genuine people I've ever met. They were the kind of people that I wanted to be like and I soon decided that I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and become part of their organization. I truly believe that joining a sorority has changed my life for the better. It was all worth all of the hard work that went into becoming a sister, this is my home.

1. These are more than just letters, this is a family. These are your non-biological sisters that came into your life as complete strangers. Little did you know that they would spend every waking moment with you during the next few weeks and know more about you than you ever thought they would. They've seen you at your worst and have been there for you through all of your highs and lows.

2. These are more than just letters, this is a promise. It's a promise to yourself to wake up every morning and know you are part of something greater than yourself. It's a promise to your sisters that you will be for them no matter what.

3. These are more than just letters, this is a call to leadership. This is your chance to make your voice heard. Whether it be with holding a position in your sorority or taking advantage of another leadership opportunity on campus, Greek life provides an awesome opportunity to step out of your comfort zone.

4. These are more than just letters, this is a choice. This is the family you chose and you wouldn't replace them for the world. You found your home away from home and you wear your letters with pride everywhere you go. You earned them, show everyone the awesome organization you chose to be a part of.

5. These are more than just letters, this is forever. When you joined this organization, you made lifelong friends. They're your future bridesmaids, your shoulder to cry on, and your favorite people to spend time with. You've been through so much in the short time you've known them and you know they will always be there for you no matter what. That's what sisterhood is all about.

6. These are more than just letters, this is an opportunity to reach out. Your philanthropy is something you're super proud of. It's how we shine in our communities. It's so cool to see the impact you make when you raise money for your philanthropy. You get to fund-raise with your best friends at your side for an organization that is really close to your heart.

7. These are more than just letters, this is a challenge. Being part of a sorority certainly isn't always sunshine and rainbows. We are a group of strong-headed, opinionated women who don't always see eye-to-eye. Sororities teach you to how to cope with drama because, in the end, you are all sisters and you value their friendship more than anything.

I'm so thankful to have found my home away from home. These girls are my non-biological sisters and I would do anything for each and every one of them. Joining Greek life is without a doubt one of the best decisions I've ever made.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!
