These 4 Tips Will Help You Say 'Yes' To Your Dream College

National College Decision Day is right around the corner; it's less than a month away and you're caught between a rock and a hard place, or maybe just two schools you really like.

Either way, deciding on a college to attend is a major life choice, and these are some tips that I used to help make my choice that can help you, too.

1. Make a pro/con list.

There are negative aspects of each school you're deciding between, and since you haven't committed yet, it is clear that there is no obvious, flawless choice. Take separate sheets of paper and list out every pro and con for the school, even if it's something small, such as how you dislike the construction or dining hall food.

Compare the lists and then figure out which pros and cons matter the most to you and the least to you. This can help you get a better feel regarding where you stand, as well as what you value in a school.

2. Tour the schools (again).

Yes, touring schools does take time and resources, but, if you can tour the schools again, do it. Sometimes, you may notice things you really like or dislike about schools at a second glance. Maybe one really bad tour will lead to eliminating a college from your list. I know that when I went back and toured a school, and I spilled soda all over my jeans, that was it for me.

3. Talk to current students or alumni.

Current students and alumni may try to swing you in one direction, but they can be great to talk to. They, like you, were once choosing between schools and they made their choice. Ask questions about the school and their experience, and maybe, they can sell the school to you.

4. Learn to read the signs.

We all believe in a college that's just right for us, kind of like a soulmate. We know there's a "one" out there. If you're having trouble deciding where to commit, chances are you didn't get that magical feeling about your soulmate college right off the bat.

That's totally okay; I didn't get it either! It is important, however, to learn to read the signs now. Have you been getting sweet weekly letters from a certain school? Or how about dreams, visions, or even others namedropping the school around you? All of these are merely signs that lead you to your dream school.

College is a stressful and amazing experience all lumped into one ball of awesomeness. Choosing the right one can be a nightmare, but just take a hint from these tips and send in your deposit already!

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
