My Theory On The Root Of Gun Violence

Orlando, Trayvon Martin, Christina Grimmie and many others have been affected by gun shootings. Now, I'm not one to state my opinion on politics or current events, such as all of the gun shooting incidents, but I have decided to share my opinion on what the real causes of these tragedies are.

It all starts from childhood. We have all picked up water guns and enjoyed the atmosphere filled with laughter as we shot each other with water. Or the innocent game of cops and robbers, where we hold up the gun motion and point it at your opponent and say, "Freeze, and nobody will get hurt!" and we would pretend to shoot at them when they moved.

Those were innocent times in our lives. Precious memories that we can hold onto and smile as we take a look back into those days. While the majority of us throughout the world realize that things like that should stay in the past. While some still remain in their childhood memories, and they still fill the room with laughter as they pick up a gun and shoot.

But one thing progressed into another and water guns became actual guns, bombs, rifles and several other weapons. I am not saying that childhood games are the cause of all gun shooting incidents in the world, but I am saying that I believe that they do have an effect on the world.

Unfortunately, people don't realize that those aren't water guns anymore. And that picking up and shooting them at a person won't just make them wet. It could make them dead. By the second, we lose another person to a gun shooting, innocent people who didn't deserve what they got. Trayvon Martin shot on the spot, Orlando was in the hands of one shooter, only one, and that one person took 49 lives and wounded 53. Christiana Grimmie was shot four times.

In our childhood, games shootings like that would definitely make you a champion. So maybe that's what's going through the shooters' heads. Maybe as they are pointing the gun, they think, "In my hand I hold a water gun, and I'm ready to win this game," while the truth is, these aren't water guns anymore. And this is not a game of cops and robbers. People are pointing fingers, trying to find someone to blame now. It's a shame how the game of cops and robbers ain't a game now.

So take my hand in your hand and let's stand, and we can pray for all the fallen ones. Because here's the truth. Those guns are full-on pistols, and no matter what you think, these aren't water guns anymore.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
