Starting the fall I will be in my Junior year at SUNY Old Westbury. I can't believe I've been there for so long already! It feels like I just finished freshman orientation. Like anyone else, going into college, I had my doubts. Admittedly, my first year was a bit rocky, which made my expectations for OW a bit lower than one would hope. As I stated in one of my previous articles, I was thinking of transferring, but didn't, which I'm now glad I chose to stay.
Here are some of the things I like about OW:
1. It's a small school.
Since I commute I really only go into four of the buildings. Usually, my classes are all in the same building, or at least two of them. Everything is pretty close together, so I don't really have to worry about being late for classes.
2. Somehow everyone knows each other.
And even if you never officially met, there's those people you always recognize in the hallway.
3. The campus scenery.
This picture makes me dislike snow a little less.
5. And the fall.
Would you look at the colors of those trees?
6. The professors.
Throughout my time at OW, I consider myself lucky enough to say I liked every professor that I took. (Okay so maybe there was one I didn't like that much, but considering I'm going to be a Junior I'd say that's a pretty good track record.)7. The staff members who aren't professors.
A lot of the time people only acknowledge the staff who were professors. I know when I graduate, I'll never forget my professors, but I also will never forget those who taught me valuable lessons outside of the classroom. My first true friends were those who worked for our food, and maintenance areas.
8. The events.
Regardless of anything (and some people might disagree with me.) in my opinion, OW knows how to put on events. There seems to be an event for everything. My favorite event would have to be the BBQ fest, and club bash which is displayed in this photo. Club bash happens once a year in the fall semester, and gives both old and new students information and opportunities to sign up for clubs we have on campus.
9. The extra help offered to us.
I would be nowhere, without the writing center, math lab, and tutoring center. Although I do not have a need for the math lab anymore because I'm finished fulfilling my math requirement (woohoo!) when I did utilize this, it was a major help. In addition to that, I basically live in the writing center.
10. The workshops.
Every time I go to a workshop I discover something new about myself.
11. And finally... The fact that we have student spotlight.
It's a great way to show what students are up to... Oh hey, that's me!
