The best TV relationships are the ones that keep us on our toes. The ones that we invest ourselves in, the ones that make us root for them. We secretly cheer them on for multiple seasons until something real finally happens, when the emotional whirlwind we've been riding comes to fruition at last.
These are couples that make us want to fight for them because they fight so hard to be together.
1. Kensi and Deeks on "NCIS Los Angeles."
This couple is impossible not to obsess over, partially because the writers of the show don't spend whole episodes drowning us in sappy love scenes, nor is their relationship a given from their first appearances on the show. The progress of their relationship over the course of the show is tantalizingly slow for several seasons—sporadic, small moments and tiny hints, then nothing for multiple episodes.
The moments we do get, however, are achingly good—like Deeks’ indirect proposal to Kensi.2. Rory and Logan on "Gilmore Girls."
Okay, so it's widely disputed which of Rory's boyfriends throughout the series was the best one; the question of whether Dean, Jess or Logan was most perfectly suited for Rory may never be answered. All the same, the intelligent banter between Rory and Logan was infectious. His readiness to make the world stop for her made us all wish that the rising Huntzberger would show up on our doorstep, proclaiming his love.
3. Lily and Marshall on "How I Met Your Mother."
These two basically demonstrate perfection. They're together when the show starts and become engaged relatively quickly, serving from beginning to end what it should look like when two people are meant to be. Lily and Marshall are, above all, inseparable. They represent the love story everyone wants to have: a (disputably) random meeting freshman year of college that turns into a solid, happy marriage. Out of all the main characters on the show, we never once lose faith in their love or their happiness, which is no small feat.
4. Booth and Brennan on "Bones."
Like Lily and Marshall, their love story doesn't stop at "I do". All of our waiting comes to a screeching halt when Brennan gets pregnant in season six, at which point there was no more going back and forth, teasing, or anything else. Booth and Brennan were now firmly in this thing, and their relationship actually makes the series better, not boring. Not a lot of TV relationships survive that turning point—once
the tension and anticipation have dissipated, there's not much left. But theirs does. What's more, their quiet moments reading to Christine and teaching her about standing up for bullies are so normal that we can't help but believe their happiness permeates every aspect of their lives.5. Aria and Ezra on "Pretty Little Liars."
Out of all these couples, they might just be the ones who have had to fight for it the most. Their relationship exists against the grain of what is socially acceptable, and yet they manage to inspire us to hope that a relationship between a teacher and his student can work. Their relationship may not have had to survive secret, months-long missions in Afghanistan without contact like Kensi and Deeks, but they have had to endure a lot. That five-year separation where they both fell in love with other people? Yeah, that was awkward for a little bit. BUT then they got back together and Ezra proposed, so all's well that ends well, right?
