There's Only Room For One

We were all born with the desire to worship.

We were all born with the desire to worship. As humans, we have a yearning to lift someone or something up. It’s in our nature. Look at the world today. We always worship something. We talk about people and things constantly. We lift up names, bringing praise to the things we hold at the highest regard. Our hearts worship at all times because that’s how we were created to be. Nonetheless so many times we forget who put the desire for worship there in the first place. Worship is in our human nature because our Creator put it there for His name’s sake.

He created each of us with a throne on our hearts, but there’s only room for one. That’s how all this works. Our hearts were created to worship and that worship can’t be divided. So who sits on your throne?

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. Psalm 29:2

I wasted a lot of time treating the throne of my heart like a puzzle, placing piece after piece on it waiting to find the perfect fit. Relationships, friendships, school, success, the right look, the right possessions, I tried everything. I went down a never-ending road of lifting something up, only to find myself lonely and disappointed. Finally I realized the perfect fit for the throne of my heart was the One who created it.

My God is the only One worthy to reign on the throne of my heart and yours. He is God. He is worthy. He is mighty. He is sovereign. He is my comfort. He is my strength. He is my hope. He is my love. He is my life. He is my God. I worship Him.

I used to have a problem reading about the truth of idols. I always knew in my heart what my idol was. I would read Scripture and hear teachings about idols, and my heart would beat out of my chest. I wanted to stop reading or stop listening. I didn't want to hear the truth about the idol sitting on the throne of my heart. If I didn't hear it, it wasn't true right?

Wrong.

There's a reason you keep hearing about all this idol business. It's time to get real with the Lord. Ask Him to reveal your idols to you, then to rid you of them. He is faithful and He longs for your obedience. He won't leave you and He won't turn His head. He'll walk with you as you clear your throne so He can reign on it forever.

As the Lord sits on His rightful throne He brings peace. He brings comfort and love. He brings discipline, not condemnation. He give grace and mercy and forgives when we are repentant. He sits there, with open arms and a loving heart, simply wanting you to love Him too with everything in you.

We were all born with the desire to worship. Choose today to worship the One who gave you that desire from the beginning.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
