We can all say we love to be home, but is not until we actually leave home that we will know how much. Having your own room and bathroom and parents that, in my case, cooked my food—everything they know I love to eat—and do my laundry. Your pets. And, of course, your family. But don’t get me wrong, I’m loving every little piece of my college experience. The thing is, there is nothing like a home visit or vacation.
When you go to college and are not constantly at home, every time you go, you will see it as a nice and relaxing getaway. And when you go to college out of state, coming home is not a typical or casual weekend trip. It normally requires getting on a flight, which is something that will probably take at least half of your day, since you have to go to the airport and all that and money, since you have to pay for a ticket. But regardless of all that, it just makes going home more exciting. An event you look forward to. And if you are like me, not only for your family, pets, friends, and food, but also for the hot Miami weather—a nice change from the Indiana cold.
Of course, in my case going home means doing—or not doing—the following things:
1. Never moving from the couch in front of the TV (if you tried my couch, you wouldn’t want to move from it).
2. Reaching a solid 400 steps on your FitBit that include getting up to eat and go to the bathroom.
3. Binge watching a show since waking up until 7am with my mother.
4. Have the deepest, more pointless conversation for hours.
5. My dad coming up with the best food recipes.
6. Making fun of my parents/my parents making fun of me.
7. Avoid any and every type of responsibility.
8. And repeating everything on the list all over again.
That’s why they say that there is nothing like home. Home is the place you can do nothing and everything surrounded with awesome people who—not to take advantage of them or anything but—will do anything for you since you are never there.Oh man, you just got to love to be home.
