Make your life count today

Testimonies of hope

Life is full of surprises. You never know what is lurking around the next corner. The world today has shown us that tomorrow is not promised. I used to be a person that would “wait until tomorrow” but now I know that if I want to help myself make a difference in this world, if I want to leave my “mark” on the world I live in, then it must be done today.

I have always believed in living life with no regrets and living each day to the fullest. However, this must be done right. I do not believe in “getting the good while it’s worth getting”. Living life to the fullest isn’t partying as much as you can, or sleeping with as many people as you can just for the sake of it. Living life to the fullest means to never go a day without making a difference. Never cease to make someone happy because they make you happy.

One of my favorite things to do is make at least one person smile every day. I do theatre because I love it, because being on or around the stage is what makes me feel alive. Living with no regrets means that I will never pass up the opportunity to be a part of doing what I love. To me living with no regrets means I will not live the rest of my life in a career that I am not thrilled to go to every single morning. I’m going to be remembered for doing what I love and being really dang good at it. The mark I leave on this world may not be monumental. There will probably be no buildings named after me, or statues built in my honor, but that’s okay. I used to think that I needed to be famous to really be remembered but that isn’t the kind of infamy I crave for.

The way I love my husband and he loves me, I want to be remembered for that love. The friendship I give to those closest to me, I want to be remembered for the smiles I gave them every day of our friendship. I thank God for the opportunities that he gives me every single day to make my difference in the world.

Now, this does not mean we shouldn’t go out and enjoy the things that life has to offer. Go out with friends, make memories that will last a life time. Those memories don’t have to end with you puking your guts out in the toilet after a night of a little to much drinking. We are not promised a certain amount of time. There are those who never get to experience any partsof life. There are also some that had their life taken away from them before they had a chance to really live. When I leave this world I want to know that I have lived every single day of my life fully. The world has given us constant reminders that we need to cherish every minute we have. With that said, why would you waste one more minute of this precious life that we have? Go out and be remembered for being great, for being you, because that’s the most important person you can be.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
