When I was a sophomore in college, I joined something bigger than myself. At the time, I didn't know what all I was about to get into, but I went to an interest meeting for a Christian sisterhood on campus and immediately fell in love. I felt like I was home, surrounded by young women like myself who were so focused on Christ and furthering His Kingdom.
The best thing about a sorority isn't the cute t-shirts, the socials, or the super fun chants. It truly is the bonds of sisterhood that are created. I don't know what it is about having a group of sisters who always have your back, but it's such a blessing. I always have a sister there for the good days and the bad. I have someone to help me on homework, with boy advice, and through life. I have a sister to pray with me and for me. And don't get me started on my Little, because that's another article in itself. I guess the big picture is that in a sisterhood, you never have to feel alone. You never have to feel like you don't matter. You never have to question if you belong. Because, not only does God remind you that you have a purpose, but you have sisters to motivate you to live up to that.
There are so many other great things wrapped inside a few Greek letters. However, that cliche saying about on the outside you can't understand it, but on the inside you can't explain it is one of the most true statements ever. A sisterhood, a sorority, a group of college aged women who come from all walks of life gathered in one organization all striving for a common purpose that is unique to their sisterhood seriously makes me proud to be a part of one. Joining a Greek organization is one of the best things I could have done.
To all my fellow Greek women, no matter the letters, we are all in one family. We are sisterhood, a sorority, a group of college aged women who come from all walks of life yet tied together by letters. A sorority woman is one of a kind. We value service and leadership both on and off campus. We are scholars, we are athletes, we are musicians, we are actresses, we are daughters, we are sisters, and we wear so many different hats in life. We hold ourselves high, we aim for success, and have the self confidence of Beyoncé. It doesn't happen overnight, but four years of wearing our Greek letters molds us into a woman worth celebrating.
My sisterhood, Kappa Phi, is one that I will love forever. My letters, KΦ, mean so much to me. They mean sisterhood. They mean life long friendships and memories. They mean service, leadership, and loyalty. They mean a bond to hundreds of women across the country. They mean so much more than two Greek letters.
They mean home.
