I will forever be a Jersey Girl. I have grown up in north Jersey and have been there my whole life, but there is somewhere so close and dear to my heart, and that is Damariscotta, Maine. My family has been renting houses since before my sister and I were born. We grew up swimming in the lake until our fingers and toes were shriveled. We went to Wavus Camp across the lake during the day, and came home; exhausted, sunburnt, covered in mosquito bites, and ready to swim in the lake until dark. One of my favorite memories was singing camp songs on Blueberry Island. I still get flashbacks of those memories with my sister and the rest of my family and really want them back all the time. It is a great little town to make amazing memories in.
The smell of the wooden walls of the lake house, sounds of the loons on the lake at night, and beautiful views that are here makes it so hard to leave. Yes, I somehow am the only one who gets attacked with a million bug bites and my oldest sister gave me a curfew of 8 o'clock to be inside because of the swarm that surrounds me if I don't, but it's completely worth it. I am in love with this town and everything that comes with it. Now that I'm older, I'm usually not the first one to jump in the lake. It's usually my little godson who is in there from 10 o'clock in the morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon; jumping and splashing around with his brother and sister. It is the best thing to ever watch. I love spending time with my family up in Maine because it feels like a little piece of paradise.
