New Years Eve has always been my favorite holidays for many reasons. Staying up all night with friends, people you love and, all the food. What's honestly NOT to love about New Years Eve? It makes me so very happy. The one thing about New Years Eve that I never quite enjoyed, was reading the novel-long Facebook posts or captions about "new beginnings", or the "new me". Then it occurred to me, the more I read and thought about these basic cliches the more angry I became this was because even though they are basic, they're not false. They're actually simple and you can in fact, find meaning behind them.
Here are 500 words on the most basic, common, and popular New Years Eve quotes that sadly, have depth behind them.
"New Year, New Beginnings"
"New Year, New Me"
Besides the food and friends, the meaning that comes with bringing in the new year, is just as important. As much as we don't want to admit it, the cliches are all true. Joe Shmoe's insta caption is right, "New Year means new beginnings." To make things worse, you might've cringed after reading "New Year, New Me", because you probably instantly thought of five girls Instagram pictures with those exact four words and the champagne emoji next to it as their caption. As much as we don't want to admit it, the sad thing is, they're not wrong.
You now have a whole year to start something new. We are luckily blessed with nothing but a whole fresh new start to make a difference in your life or someone else's. It is a new freaking year. After December 31st, you can change yourself. Yes, it might take a month or two to remember to write 2017 on your paper as opposed to 2016. Changing yourself isn't a bad thing. Wanting to make a difference in your own life is not bad either. Reflecting on yourself and how you feel about the current you is one of the best ways to decide what kind of change you want to make in these next 365 days.
Sticking on the topic of change, you don't only have to choose to change yourself. You can change your surroundings and the outside things affecting you personally. For example, the people you associate with, the clothes you want to wear, or even the type of food you eat. Get rid of last year's drama and start fresh with the same friends or new, drama-free friends. Just make sure these people are strictly good vibes only. Don't let any of the toxic people take a place in your life next year like they did the past year.
The amount of time you have to complete whatever you want is insane as well. You personally might believe the past year might've flown by, but in retrospect, you took the past 365 days, one slow second at a time. Looking at all of the changes you go through in one single year is a headache but you made it. One year, 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 525,600 minutes, and a lot of seconds. You have all this time to do some of the following:
1. Kiss the boy or girl you like
2. Work on improving your grades
3. Efficiently plan out your days with productive activities to complete
4. TRY to eat healthier
5. Even try taking a whirl at going to the gym
You have 365 days, all this time to cross whatever you want to do from your bucket list. All this time to make something of yourself. In one year's time, you can control your fate and what you want to do. These may be dumb basic New Years quotes, but all those common white girls and boys make a point. New might be scary, but it's different, and that's okay.
Here's to a happy and safe 2017!
