Some students come to college and embrace everything it has to offer, automatically falling in love with their school. For others, it takes time to get use to their new home away from home. Being a freshman in college is not easy. You go through some big changes, such as moving away from your parents and siblings, separating from your best friends since the fourth grade and probably getting dumped by your high school boyfriend. The biggest change, however, has to be starting a whole new life on your own. Â
College can be one of the biggest transitions you will ever have to make. It has ups, downs and a lot changes, but change can be good. It is that moment when you realize you have found exactly where you are supposed to be. This is how you know you have found it. Â Â
Finding a major you like.Â
What college student knows exactly what they want to do with the rest of their life? Not most of us, but finding a major you actually enjoy learning about can help you find a dream job, and get you excited for the future. No one likes to write ten-page papers and pull all nighters; choosing to study something you are interested in will help you dread your homework a little less. It is only the rest of your life, so why not pursue something you are passionate about, even if that means changing your major three times to find it. Â
Meeting your best friend.Â
Whether you meet them in line at orientation, on your floor freshman year, or when you join a sorority, you have found the people it seems like you cannot live without. They become your home away from home because you do practically everything together. That means taking care of each other when your heart gets broken, when you've had a rough Friday night, or staying up until 3 a.m. talking about nothing and drooling over Nathan Scott. They are the ones who will make your college experience memorable and you could not imagine your college campus without each and every single one of them. Â
Joining the perfect sorority.Â
They say rushing in college is one of the best decisions you will make, and it really is. The big campus just got a lot smaller since you see your sorority sisters almost everywhere reppin’ your letters. Finding a group of women who have the same interests and values as you, makes it seem more like a family rather than just a sorority. Your Greek family pretty much becomes your family and that just makes your sorority so much better.  Â
Getting a little too involved.Â
When you come to college, you have a lot of free time. Your parents and teachers tell you to get involved in as much as you can, and they are right. Joining clubs and organizations is another way of finding friends who have the same interests as you. Most universities have a club for everything, and if they don’t, you can probably create it. Being involved is fun, but it can also help you prepare for the future. Getting a 4.0 is awesome, but having lots of extra curriculars on your résumé will help you secure those future dream jobs. Â
Finding your frat house.Â
Sorority girls love fraternities. But every sorority girl loves a specific fraternity house. Whether it is the one with the super hot senior you don’t really have a chance with, or just the one with all of your best guy friends, you have a favorite. Finding that place you can go hang out, even on a weekday, and not really care about being judged is how you know you found it.                  Â
Most importantly, you just have to enjoy it.Â
Life is too short and college is only 4 years. If you think high school went fast, college is going to fly by even faster. That’s why you should do everything; get involved, join Greek life (or don’t), live in a huge house on frat row with six of your best friends (even though everyone thinks it’s a terrible idea). Do it anyway. It’s the last four years before your adult life actually begins, so live it up and don’t have any regrets.Â
