Why Your Mother Is Your Best Friend and Your Dad is Your Hero
Hallie Hughes

No one knows you better than your parents. No one loves you more than your parents. No one protects you more than your parents. There is no greater love than the love your parents have for you. Believe it or not, all they want is what's best for you. Your parents try to show you the light and darkness of the world. They have the biggest influence on your life. They are the first people you see when you come into the world and the first people you love. They help form the person you are and becoming. Your mom will teach you all the things you need to know about surviving in the world and your dad will do anything in his power to make sure you do survive. All they want in the world is to see their baby girl happy and succeed.

When I was in middle school, I never thought my mother would be my best friend. I thought she was overbearing and had no clue what she was ever talking about. It was not until I got older I realized my mother really does understand me and knows everything I’m going through. She went through the hard break ups and dealing with mean girls. She understands how hard it is to be a girl sometimes. Motherly advice is the best genuine advice you could ever receive. Your mother will always be truthful to you even if it hurts. She will give you the advice that you need to hear not what you want to hear. She will teach you how important it is to be a good person. She will teach you how to be a respectable lady. Your mother will always pick up your calls no matter the hour or what it is about. Your mother is the best person you know. Your mother sets examples that you should follow. She will always be there when you need her to be. She shows you the light in the world. Even when you get older and may be miles apart, she is always worrying about you. Your mom will always be there to put a smile on your face. She gives you faith that everything will be okay. She praises you but is not afraid to tell you that you messed up. She will always forgive you. Your mother helps form the beautiful woman you will someday be.

A father’s love for his daughter is immeasurable. Fathers will do anything to save his daughter from all the darkness the world throws at her. He will stand by your side and protect you. He will do anything in his power to provide a happy life for you. You are his pride and joy. You are his princess as he is your king. He will make sure you succeed. He will push you until he knows you're doing the best you can. He will give you the tough love that your mother can not do. He will always defend you and he will tell you when you are wrong. Your father will make sure his daughter is tough enough to get through the battles in life. Your father will always be the one to say yes sometimes when your mother says no. He will sacrifice for you. He will teach you what a real man looks like and does. He will always remind you how much you are worth. He is the example of what the qualities your husband should have. Your father is the first man you will ever love. Your father is your knight in charming armor.

Parents are your biggest support system. They will always catch you when you fall. They will always remind you the best path to take. They will never stop loving you. They know you will make mistakes but they know it is their job to make sure you will not do it again. Their biggest mission in life is to bring you up to be the best person you can be. They will constantly remind you that you matter and everything you do in life matters. They teach you from birth what to do and not do in this crazy life. They are only teaching you from their mistakes. When you do not have anyone in the world, you know you still have them. Respect your parents and obey your parents. They want to give you the world and more. Your mother will never let you down and will always be there whenever you need her. She will constantly give you the confidence that you need to be the young lady you are. She will never leave you. She knows you are not perfect. She is the most honest person you have in your life. Your father will do anything he can do to make sure you get the life you deserve. He will prepare you for whatever life throws at you, but knows he will save you no matter what the cost is. He will do anything for you and your mother. He gives you life. He provides for you. Your parents will always be with you no matter if they are miles away. Your mother is your best friend, and your dad is your hero.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
