Aleppo is hell on earth right now. Women and children are dying by the hundreds, I'm sure. We can be aware that it's happening, and we can refuse to turn away from it to something more comfortable to look at. We can acknowledge it as an actual event that's happening and refuse to be ignorant.
In August of this year it had been reported that around 18,000 people had been tortured or killed, or both. That was August. Imagine what that number is now. People who continue to speak up about what's happening are basically signing up for a death sentence, and if they aren't dead yet, it's around the corner for them.
There is something we all can do. We are not helpless. We can donate to the White Helmets, a volunteer group that helps people in need in Aleppo. There's Doctors Without Borders, another organization dedicated to helping, who needs donations because many of their facilities have been targeted by airstrikes. Mercy USA is supposed to be building a facility near the area as well. These are organizations you can donate to. There is something you can do.
Right now, Aleppo needs support. They need people to know their stories. They need to be recognized as people, and not just Syria's punching bag.
