With Thanksgiving and the busy holiday season approaching, it is important to express gratitude and thanksgiving in our lives! As college students, we often get caught up in the hustle and bustle of school and finals week and do not take the time to reflect on our lives and realize our many blessings. We have so many reasons to be thankful! Here are 50 things that I am thankful for as a college student:

1. A College Education!

It is a privilege to be able to attend a university.

2. Caffeine.

( Coffee, tea, energy drinks) that gives us a little push to get through our long nights of studying.

3. Friends!

They are the people that keep us sane and give us the encouragement necessary to make it through.

4. Family!

They are your biggest support system and are always there to listen and offer advice when necessary.

5. Crock Pots...

for those mornings when you throw dinner in and head off to class.

6. Fuzzy socks!

They are there for you through those long cold nights of studying.

7. Garbage disposals.

There to get rid of your fuzzy, mold-covered food that accidentally gets pushed to the back of the fridge.

8. Family vacations.

A getaway every so often will leave you refreshed and ready to focus on school again.

9. Chinese takeout.

Fried goodness of egg rolls and lo mein noodles are perfect when trying to finish a last minute project.

10. Bubble baths.

Sometimes it is necessary to soak all of your troubles away in a hot bath.

11. Google.

Let's face it, Google is a rockstar! College would be extremely difficult without it.

12. Netflix.

For those lazy days following a test where you have time to binge watch your favorite series!

13. Washing machines.

A clean load of clothes is a big stress relief.

14. Candles.

They provide that warm glow and comforting smell throughout your home.

15. Pets.

Whether its taking a walk with your dog, or watching your fish swim around its bowl, pets provide smiles and love that everyone needs.

16. Your bed.

Your bed is always there waiting for you to jump back in and grab some needed sleep.

17. Thrift stores.

The perfect place to go shopping without breaking your bank! The thrill of finding a gem unexpectedly is also a great feeling.

18. Your favorite ink pen.

We all have a favorite pen that makes our day a little more enjoyable with each note written.

19. Sriracha.

Spicing up bland cafeteria food or a bowl or Ramen makes me thankful!

20. A long, warm hug.

Who doesn't enjoy a nice hug every so often?

21. Your music playlist.

A good playlist will get you through anything.

22. Cancelled classes!

Some teachers celebrate the holidays early by cancelling class.

23. Concealer.

A product that is perfect for hiding those black circles under our eyes from lack of sleep.

24. Study guides.

With cumulative finals approaching, a study guide is super helpful in narrowing information down.

25. Stickers.

Sometimes all the motivation we need is giving ourselves a gold star.

26. Your favorite pair of jeans.

Let’s face it… we all have one pair that we like the best.

27. The cold side of the pillow.

There is something strangely satisfying about it.

28. Mashed potatoes.

Sometimes you just need a bowl full of buttery carbs!

29. A good book.

Curling up with a page turner is a great feeling.

30. Rainy days.

Sometimes we have to let loose and dance in the rain.

31. Laughing until you cry.

We all need these moments in our lives.

32. Shopping sprees.

A new outfit can change your outlook on life.

33. Mickey Mouse.

Who doesn’t love a giant talking mouse?

34. The snooze button.

We all deserve an extra 10 minutes of sleep!

35. Adult coloring books.

They bring out the inner child and creative side in us.

36. Bubble wrap.

The best stress relief is popping those tiny bubbles.

37. America!

Land of the free, home of the brave.

38. Church on Sunday mornings.

The best way to start your Sunday.

39. A day enjoying nature.

A breath of fresh air is needed every so often.

40. Your hometown.

You will always belong there and will always be welcomed back.

41. Chacos.

The world’s most comfortable shoes deserve some recognition!

A place where it is perfectly acceptable to act a little silly.

43. A free meal.

Free food is never a bad thing.

44. Student discounts.

These bad boys will save your bank account 10% at a time!

45. Fishing trips.

Spend the day casting your troubles away!

46. The moment your food comes at a restaurant.

We all enjoy this satisfying moment.

47. Exact change.

Saving your pennies always pays off.

48. Being accepted.

Everyone loves to feel like they belong.

49. Childhood memories.

We will cherish these times for the rest of our lives.

50. Yourself!

Show yourself some love and gratitude! You ROCK!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
