In the world we live in, it's awfully easy to fall into the "want want want" mentality. We all know the feeling of going into Target for a gallon of milk and coming out with a new wardrobe... because it was all on sale... right?
Wrong. Now, I'm no extreme minimalist, but I did live out of a suitcase and a half for three months while living abroad. This taught me how to discern a want from a need. Truth be told, you don't need much in this life to be a happy healthy individual—and experiences are much more valuable.
Now, I'm not saying you can't spoil your self every once in a while. Heck—I bought way too much at Micheal's in the last week. But when you resist the urge to buy that top, put that money in a jar, an envelop, the bank—anywhere! Build a fund for something you are passionate about. Start a travel fund, a new home fund, sponsor a child in need. All these things will bring you so much more joy than a pair of shoes or whatever it is you're buying.
Treasure and appreciate the little things. Appreciate the company of your family, the cuddles from your pets, the walks outside. Embrace things rather than waiting for your next paycheck, so you can spend it right away. When you do this, I promise your life will be changed.
