If you have ever done theater, you probably know just what I am talking about. The people you meet there are unlike any other in the entire world. You know for a fact that they love to do exactly what you like to do, no questions asked. They know you love what they love, which is always a great place to start.
During the rehearsal process, you have the opportunity to see the same people every day of the week for months at a time. You're bound to get close with some of them; it's just going to happen. Seeing people on the daily for hours at a time is a great way to get to know them, even if during that time you are dancing, singing and acting. It is those small moments between all of the dancing, singing and acting that really make a difference in the world. They are the best of friends because these are the people you can go months or years without seeing and it will feel just like yesterday when you see them again because you have developed this connection unlike any other, built on a common passion.
They are the people who get to know the most about your life. You even share a dressing room with them, and I don't know how people can get any closer than that. Theater people all have minds of their own, but they are all creative, and creative people tend to make the most lasting friendships. They are people that share a connection with you on a whole different level than people you meet in class or even at work.
They are the people who understand that the theater is an escape for you, because it is for them too, and even if you both wanted the same role to start with, none of that matters because in the end all you want is to have a successful show that is going to stick with you and the audience for a long time. We all know we are there for a reason, so we cherish every moment we can get. Throwing a bunch of random people together in a cast sometimes turns out to be the start of friendships that last for years to come, even after the curtain closes for the last time.
