When the new year, strikes, resolutions are made. When the new year strikes, plans are put into motion. When the new year strikes, we declare a single word that will define our year.
When we establish these things, we are preparing for work that is geared towards fulfilling our desires and goals. This is all well and good; especially if we actually follow through with them.
That being said, I think it's safe to say that we loathe this process. We want the prize. Not the effort that comes with it! We complain about the positions we are in, as if it will make our goal come faster. We are even so bold as to demand God for a breakthrough without actually doing anything.
While we are working towards our goals, consider the following: What is working in you while you work?
What transformation is taking place while you give of yourself? Do you even believe or know that you are being transformed by giving of yourself?
I have worked for a major grocery store chain for the last four (going on five) years. One important development that I have noticed is that I have become focused on serving those around me, rather than merely doing my job. My work at large is not just about me aiming to receive a pay check or gaining experience; it's about helping those around me move forward in a manner that pertains to the situation.
And yes, packing groceries and bring in carts is a way of helping others move forward. My job for me has become the place where God works on me.
For 2017, I'm declaring this a year of breakthrough. In particular, I'm declaring this to be a breakthrough for how we view things and each other.
Whatever you loathe, pause for a moment, and reflect on why you feel that way. If it pertains to work, do NOT think about why you are doing what you are doing. That has already been established.
Instead, think about the change that is going on inside of you as you are working. You will be surprised at the results of your labor.
Happy New Year everyone!
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, -Colossians 3:23
