It's like a drug!

The Wrong Use Of Technology

Our century can be considered the era in which technology developed, improved our life, our society and of course, our world. We would have never been at this level if we don’t give credit to what technology gave us and how it changed our life.

If we go back in time, we know that once people used to live without phones. And our question is: “ How could they live?” They did, and I don’t think they were unfortunate or unlucky, or had a boring life. Was that life better?? Was it better to live more in contact with people and with nature instead of living always with your phone in your hands? The way people spent their time during the day and the way the people lived their life was completely different. They used to get involved with different activities, together with friends and family, they used to talk more, they used to spend more time doing interesting activities than spending time watching their screens.

As time passes by, it’s unavoidable that changes, developments and improvements are made. This is the way it works. The world, society and man adapt to it, they need to adapt to it, whether they like it or not. If man and society do not adapt to the changes that technolgies had done, it means that they will remain backwards. A society that doesn’t develop and always remains the same as years ago, doesn’t bring anything good, doesn’t bring changes or improvements. Changes and growth are the results of the passing of time.

Nowadays, we can say that we are lucky to live in a technological era, we have everything we need. Everyone has either the latest model TV, a radio with wi-fi connection speakers, an I phone, an I pad, a tablet or an Ipod to listen to music. Let’s bring our attention to the I phone, this is a device that everyone has, of course. If we take the subway we see that everyone, is sitting on their seat reading, chatting, playing with their phones. If we walk through the 5th Avenue, we see people walking with their earphones . People are so busy watching their screens that they don’t give a lot of importance to whom is walking or sitting next to you. We give more importance to an emoji than to a smile or a laugh. We chat but we don’t talk or dialogue as much as we did. We give more importance to a notification or to likes to a profile picture on facebook, instead of looking at people in their eyes. We chat, we tweet, we put like, we share and we comment… but where are the smiles, the laughs, the talks and the emotions of seeing a person in the eyes?? We have so many virtual friends, on these social networks, that we don’t spend time with our true friends, walking, shopping, or just drinking coffee and discussing our daily routine. Where did all these things go? Are we wasting too much time of our life with useless things? I think so. That’s why it has become a drug. We can’ t live without a phone anymore. Technology developed our world, and social media did shorten the space among people from different countries… but the use of all these technologies is completely wrong. It has shortened the distance between two countries but it has divided and distanced people in the same room.

We need to reflect! Use technologies in a good and right way… and do not forget the most important things in life: giving a smile, laughing a lot, discussing as much as you can, giving a caress, having coffee, doing shopping and especially looking at people in their eyes. These things are the most important things in life that will give you the best emotions ever.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
