Have you found yourself in a part of your life where you’ve gotten a blank slate? You get to have a do over, and hopefully make things so much better, but you just don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’ve been doing fine and all of a sudden, things just have come to a halting stop? It’s the writer’s block of life. Most people experience it at one point or another. These blocks can be hard to overcome, and even scary, but here are a few tips to starting off this new chapter of your life right.

1. What will your legacy be like?

It can be hard to know what you should do when you reach the block. Thinking about the legacy you want to have after your life can help put things into perspective. All too often we look at the meaningless details in life and lose sight of the big picture. If we stop and reflect on the legacy want to have, it makes decisions in life so much easier to make.

2. Ask for help from wise people.

It’s okay to admit you’ve come to a block in your life. There are people out there that have been in your shoes and can help you navigate through it. Seek them out and be sure to ask plenty of questions. You can use the past experience of others to gain new insight that can help you overcome the block in your life.

3. Get involved in things you're interested in.

Sometimes you might just need something new in your life to kick-start a new beginning. Becoming involved in activities that you're interested in might bring joy into your life. Maybe this new activity will bring you new friends. Fellowship with others can add something special to your life, and they might even be able to help you overcome your block. They might lead you to a path you had never thought of before, or steer you away from the wrong path you thought about taking.

4. Cut out all the garbage.

Maybe you have some negative relationships with people around you. Whether it's friends, family or colleagues, it’s important to evaluate these relationships and make sure that they are healthy. If they aren’t, you might just change a few things or you might need to cut them off entirely. The people you surround yourself with, whether you are aware of it or not, affect how you make decisions in life.

5. Watch out for the little things.

Sometimes in life, we are waiting for some big event to come rock our world, but it never comes. We are like a surfer waiting for the big wave that never comes. However, if we had put on a snorkeling mask, we could’ve seen a whole beautiful world of color right below us. It’s the little blessings in life that can have the greatest impact. We might not be able to see them right away, but once we notice them, they can alter how we view our lives.

We are the writers of a great adventure: our own lives. We may find ourselves at a point where we stumble upon a writer’s block, but we’ve just got to pick up our pen and finish writing. So I encourage you, go out and overcome the writer’s block of life.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
