The Worst TV Show I Have Ever Seen

It feels like a repeat of something I have been seeing for years.

I feel like we have been here before.

I wake up to someone's name that I do not recognize trending on Facebook and Twitter, I click on it and I see that another unarmed Black Man was gunned down because of a routine traffic stop gone wrong.

Terence Crutcher was killed as he was approaching his SUV by Officer Betty Shelby in Tulsa, OK.

I am at a loss for words, especially how this murder was handled.

The main thing that I see when I look at this case is the same that I have seen with all of the other cases of murder that have happened to unarmed black men: the blatant assassination of character and bringing up the past of the victims in question.

That is absolutely ridiculous.

When Brock Turner raped an unconscious girl, people cared about his future and didn't want to talk about what he had done.

That is so frustrating.

You cannot tell me that white privilege does not exist in 2016 when things like this keep happening. Privilege is defined as "a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people."

It exists, and it is as rampant as ever.

We live in a world where some people think it is OK to treat others like they are not equal.

I know the excuse that will be made now, for the most recent killing. "Well, Crutcher had PCP in his car and he was reaching for something, the cops had to shoot."

While there was PCP in his car, there was no reason to shoot him before he fired at them.

I don't care if the cure for cancer is in that car, there was no reason to kill him like that, while he was in that position.

The same thing happens after something like this happens, people get mad on Facebook, and post endless photos and videos that say #BlackLivesMatter. Then, there are an equally loud group of people clapping back with #BlueLivesMatter and a war in the comments rages on.

I feel like a broken record while saying this, but we are not going to move forward until we put our differences aside and start loving each other.

We are so divided to the point of where we are so busy screaming at each other, trying to get our points across, that we don't take time to realize what is at stake.

We are a country in limbo.

We are currently facing the most important election that our country has ever had between Orange Hitler and one of the most qualified candidates in history to run for office.

We need to get our ideas together and how we should act towards each other before we scream at each other and try to get our points of view across.

We are not going to get anywhere if we keep acting this way.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
