The Worst Summer Hookup Stories Of All Time

Whether you’re taking classes, relaxing at home or building your résumé with an internship, chances are things are heating up for you in more ways than one this summer. Summer hookups – better known as summer flings – are ideally an adorable relationship filled with trips to the beach, stargazing in the bed of a pick-up truck, slow dancing in the moonlight and blasting 'your song' on the beach with your waterproof speakers because you know that tide sneaks up on you.

However, most of our lives are very far from ideal and often result in horror stories. Below are some of the hookups from summers past that might leave you relieved with what you consider to be your horror story.

Survivor: Shacker Edition

"One time I shacked at this guy’s house and when he dropped me off in the morning I had no phone, keys, or purse and all the doors were locked to my house. It was freezing outside and naturally I was in a dress and heels from the night before. So I pulled the cover off of the grill and crawled inside it to keep warm until my roommates woke up and finally rescued me a few hours later."

Sister, Sister

"I had just started dating this girl and when I was out at a party after I had a lot to drink, I spotted her across the room. I went up behind her and laid a big one on her, just to find out that it was actually her twin sister. Whoops."

That’s Not My Name

"I was hooking up with this one girl that I was friends with for a while and she had just broken up with her boyfriend. I had always thought she was cute and we would flirt occasionally, so when they broke up we hit it off. When we were hanging out I kept asking her if she was using me as rebound because I didn’t want things to get awkward between us, but she insisted that she wasn’t. She was successful in assuring me, that is until we were hooking up and she kept calling me her ex-boyfriend’s name."

A Birthday Surprise

"It was my 18th birthday and first birthday away from home during my freshman summer. My parents were really sad that they couldn’t spend the day with me, but I told them not to worry about it and that I would come home on the weekend and thought nothing more of it. As most summer freshmen, I had a guy that I was “talking” to and we were celebrating my birthday in a slightly different way than my parents and I usually would. Things started getting hot and heavy and my phone kept going off but we both just ignored it. Then we heard a knock and the door and when I opened the door my jaw hit the floor as I saw my parents holding a birthday cake and balloons screaming, ‘Happy birthday, Princess!’ They obviously saw my boy toy and the rest of the day was extremely awkward."

The Naked Man

"I was talking to this guy all night at the bar and ended up going back to his house to ‘hangout’ at the end of the night. During the cab ride back to his place, I texted my friend to pick me up ASAP because I really didn’t want anything to happen with him. So to kill time when we got there, I went to the bathroom to freshen up. When I came out he was completely naked sitting on the bed on one knee, I was mortified. I immediately ran out of the house and thankfully my friend was already there. I jumped in her car and never saw him again."

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).
