When you first set sights on the city of Pittsburgh, the first thing you see are the yellow bridges. These yellow bridges hold the pavement that hundreds of cars drive on everyday day. They hold the echoes of the sound of cars honking and engines blaring. These yellow bridges set the mood of the steel city.
In the fall, the people of the 'Burgh are hyper over the "Stillers." The football team that has been known to hold six Super Bowl championship rings. Walking into the three big gates at Heinz Field lead up to the commotion of the game. You're in a tight knit space while waiting to be let into the stadium; making a few friends, as long as you're wearing a Steeler jersey, who are sharing the same air as you. As soon as you walk into Heinz, you can feel the adrenaline of the fans. "Yinz" is being shouted and the occasional beer is being drunk while wearing a hoodie under the infamous black and gold jersey. The names of Ward, Polamalu, or even Bettis are being represented by the fans of passed down years, while those present are being represented with the numbers 7, 84 and 92. Once in your seat, you're welcomed to the amazing view of Pittsburgh's Mount Washington and the Ohio River.
Once October arrives, it's time to bring out your Crosby jersey and black and gold beanie. Iceburgh the penguin would be seen walking around Consol Energy Center posing for pictures with fans and busting a move while fans are pouring in around the building from the over expensive parking spots. For the playoffs, the big screen is set up for the fans to set up lounge chairs and blankets to watch the Penguins dominate, whether they're home or away. The energy during the game is unexplainable. Fans jumping and screaming, beer getting dripped on you from your left and hearing loss starting to form on your right. Between each period, fans get to watch games being played on the ice while they await their team to come back with a fresh mindset. At the end of each game, three stars of the game are picked out while the fans go wild at the penguin players who make the cut.
When April nears, the Pirates baseball team enters the Pittsburgh fandom's eyes. The heat in the city is a big hint that it's Bucco season. Fans pour into PNC Park, with the smell of peanuts and popcorn. The grass is greener than green in the outfield, and the city is glowing behind the Roberto Clemente gate. Each inning, anything can happen to change the game. Whether it be Andrew McCutchen hitting a home run or Josh Harrison making an out at second base. Each time a Pirate goes up to bat, their own choice of a song plays, while the fans bob their heads to the beat. Once a home run happens, the fireworks are set off and the fans go wild.
Pittsburgh is known for its sports. The people of the 'Burgh pour their heart and soul into each team, whether it be baseball, hockey, or football. Sports aren't just entertainment in this city, they're a way of life.
