The World Needs A Change In YOU

Open your eyes to what is around you.

Open your eyes to what is around you.

There should be no surprise when you see the trees fall dead and the ocean grow stronger.

There should be no lack of speech on the beach because your ideal day was ruined by trash and dirty oceanic views.

There should be no complaints on summer days when the sun rays cause temperatures to rise far above what your remember them to ever be.

No one is to blame for this horror, for this shame, but us. We have turned the earth from beauty to the beast.

We have created a beast with eyes of barren hatred and claws of cold, hard greed.

We have given it blood running thick with the oil we pull relentlessly from the depths of the earth, and we spilled that blood across the sea.

We have provided it with breath of fire and smoke from the endless supply of carbon monoxide in the sky.

We have made the monster strong, and we have raised it high with our pride because we refuse to see what it has done to the world around us.

The world has entered an era of sorrow and hardship that cannot be undone by simple good will or a good deed.

There are children on the streets who freeze their fingers to the bones each winter's night as the years grow colder and colder.

There are creatures in the snow who see their world get smaller as the waters grow warmer and the ice gets smaller.

There are animals who ran the ground happily but no longer do because they are wiped out entirely, killed by greed and envy.

There are people with hurt that we caused when we took their ancestors from their homes to do work we deemed too lowly.

When will there be an end to the growing pain inside the world we have taken for granted as long as we have been on it?

When will there be an end to the pain we have caused the land, the hurt and death we have caused, to those who just want to live as we do upon it?

The air grows thicker with the hatred and indifference we toss to the wind every day as we keep tormenting the land and sky.

The waters turn darker as we keep throwing our envy and stubborn pride into the once crystal blue depths now harboring waste and muddied possibilities.

There is no turning back for the human race once we have disgraced our place on this once beautiful and loving earth.

There is no way to just turn the hands of time and reverse the damage done; we have won the war never supposed to be fought.

Look at the world around you and look who got caught in the crossfire of a war fought for the furthering of man at the cost of the earth.

What can come of this if we miss every chance we are given to reconcile what we caused and make it better once more?

This is realization. This is confrontation. This is a call for change.

Change the ways in which we see this land as nothing but a place to provide profit and enterprise.

Change the ways we polluted and pained the environment, everyone on earth too, so we find new ways to work and new things that show our strengths.

Change the way we view the world we live in because it is the only one we will ever have, and it is dying whether we like it or not. We are the only ones who can change that. We have to change to change the world. Be the first to change.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
