The Words That I Could Never Say
Kathryn McGinnis

I'm not going to sit here and say that you didn't hurt me. That in the moment I didn't wish that there was a different outcome, that I didn't think back on every moment, trying to figure out what went wrong. But these are the words that I could never say to you.

I do not know why you hurt me when I gave you the benefit of the doubt countless times. I don't know why you led me on, lied to me, when you only had the worst of intentions. Especially when you knew I had the best. I know I'm not perfect, but I really tried for you. I let down my walls and I let you in, you took advantage of that. I let you see a side of me I don't let everyone see. You convinced me you were worthy of knowing me like that.

I could regret talking to you, I could forget all the experiences and times we had together. But I don't. You showed me that actions speak louder than words, you showed me your true colors.

Sometimes I wonder how you are or where you ended up, sometimes I see something that reminds me of you or something that we shared. I hope you are happy wherever you are. I hope you found someone that was what you were looking for, someone that you held on to long enough to open yourself up to. I hope you found someone that helped you realize what you threw away so many times, but also I hope you realize what you helped me gain.

I realized my worth and I realized my strength. Mostly though, I realized what I deserved and what I wanted. Even though you hurt me, I want to thank you. Thank you for opening up my eyes again, they had been closed for quite a while. I didn't realize how I was allowing myself to be treated, I was even beginning to believe that was how it was supposed to be. That this was normal. You had me tricked into believing you, falling for that smile. I dismissed your countless excuses and fell for your words. By ignoring the signs, I ignored the truth. Thank you for awaking me to this, yet again.

I wish I could say all of this to you but then again I do not wish to spend any more of my time living in the past. So these are my last words to you, I hope she realizes who you are, but what I hope the most is that you aren't that person anymore. I hope you learned from your mistakes and saw how much you hurt people, realized what you were doing. I hope you tell her she's pretty every day and hold her close. I hope you love her and I hope you don't let her get away. I hope that you have found your happiness. And I hope you know that I have found mine.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
