On January 21, 2017, the Women’s March took place in Washington D.C., yet that was not the only march to commence. Marches all over the world took place and brought women together from every ethnic, racial, and socio-economic background. However, we cannot forget to mention the men who stood by our sides.
From Washington D.C. to New York City, from Chicago to Atlanta, women and men all over America marched. St. Paul was shut down because there were so many people and people in Boise marched in the snow. I can’t forget to mention the marches overseas though too. In Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, Sydney, and many more cities all around the globe. These marches truly demonstrate the solidarity of women and what can happen when we all come together.
This weekend, I was able to march in the Women’s March held on my college campus at Georgia Southern University. I was a bit sad that I could not be at the one in Washington, yet this experience was one I will not forget. I got to march around my campus with locals from my town, professors and employees at my school, and my peers. It was a very unifying experience that showed me that people here DO care, that women in every town care about their rights. We had many amazing speakers who have all helped in various aspects of women’s and civil rights. I have been inspired and my life has been changed by this experience.
Solidarity among women will move mountains. Women coming together from all countries and walks of life will change legislation and inspire close-minded people to open their minds to new ideas. The Women’s March has changed my life and even if you were not able to attend one, I hope it has changed yours too.
