How 'The Witcher' Has Changed Immersive Gaming

Unless you've ignored the entire video game community for the past several years, you've probably heard of the Witcher series. From the gaming community it has received very positive reviews, while it has drawn the usual criticisms of gore, sexism, nudity, etc from the usual people.

Those criticisms are likely well-deserved. Both the books and the video games do an excellent job of mimicking the real world. Therefore, it stands to reason that it would be true to real world issues and draw criticisms as such.

But that isn't what this article is about. It's about the unique qualities of the Witcher universe. Unlike most things deemed as fantasy, there is a great deal of real science visible within the games and books, albeit alongside fictitious things such as monsters and magic.

It also creates a vivid political landscape that mimics several real historical conquests. The sense of suspense is often palpable, as unlike many stories, you cannot predict the events of the series with ease. The series also goes into moral conflict quite a bit in ways that other series' do not. The moral quagmires are followed by serious consequences in the video games. All factors are interlaced in a manner that makes the story very compelling and the worlds very immersive.

The unfortunate aspect of the series is that the books have yet to be fully translated in English. While the video games made their rise mostly in English speaking countries, the books were written in Polish. While the fist several have been translated for English speakers to enjoy, many have not. For the multi-lingual there are even fewer Spanish translations and roughly the same in German and Spanish. However, for anyone that enjoys fantasy or medieval history, I would highly recommend it. It's well worth the read, play, and wait for translations.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
