The War With Finals Is Over!

We all in life have to endure things that are challenging, unwanted, but yet very important. That is a perfect case for describing final exams in college, high school as well. Here at Marquette University finals week has finally wrapped up and now while all the students brave the cold to get home by driving or flight, its more of the calm after the storm for the students as the war with finals has finally come to an end… for now. Here are the top four things to do after coming out of finals week.

The answer by the way is no, constantly checking your grades will not be on this list.

4. Go on a major caffeine detox

It’s no doubt that finals week is a time where sleep is the last thing we are thinking. While not sleeping is no where near healthy, the fact remains we need to use every hour we can to stay awake, energized, and focused to which we turn to caffeinated drinks to help us. Try staying away from caffeine for a week and see how much sleep you get back, if it is easy for you then continue avoiding it, the results may surprise you.

3. Catch up on Netflix

Admit it, during finals week your Netflix account use was nowhere near what it usually is during a regular week of schooling. With any traveling you plan on doing or once you finally settle in take time to relax and catch up on any of the shows you have missed or have heard of and want to give a try. The best part of course being you won’t feel judged finally when Netflix asks you the famous question, “are you still there?”

2. Catch up on your Christmas shopping

It’s pretty easy to lose track of the days when you’re in the process of studying for exams, so it’s pretty easy to forget that the biggest holiday of the year is right around the corner. Simply put try to get your list together of who you want to give a gift to and to get all of your Christmas shopping done and don’t be afraid to get yourself a little something.

1. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep, & Repeat

Obviously the biggest thing you need to do is to catch up on sleeping since you have almost been deprived of it since finals week had begun. Obviously don’t spend your entire Christmas break in bed but its totally understandable to lay in bed a little past noon and not be judged for it. Just make sure during your nap, you spend some time with family, friends, and have a safe and happy holidays.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
