The War On Color Pt 1

In this day in age, people tend to assume that colorism is a big problem, that it just happened out of nowhere, but in all actuality, colorism has been going on for more than 10 plus years. Colorism is typically found being used in the African American community. The majority of the community doesn't know that they are discriminating against their own people. Just by stating and/or categorizing people in groups: light skin, brown skin, and dark skin. Over the years, it wasn't as bad compared to now. Now, it has gotten to the point where people have to embrace their skin tone because other people are trying to tear them down.

For a person with my skin complexion, it has been a real challenge for people in today's society. Being dark skin can actually suck when you hear the same statements over and over again. My favorite line has to be,"You're cute for a dark skin", as if my darkness was a problem for a persons' taste buds. Even rappers are discriminating with their lyrics and/or music videos. It is more common for a darker skin female to come second to a lighter skin female, because the world has an unwritten rule that all light skin females are the most important. And that's when the disagreements tend to happen.

People around the world have step up to change the system in a way, instead of being at war with each other. Some are taking the stand for rebuilding the unity within the the black community. Doing the right thing by keep it strong the community before going out in the world, "Love yourself or no one will" as my favorite rapper J. Cole stated.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
