This has been, by far, one the craziest elections we've seen and it's finally over. The new President of the United States is going to be Donald Trump. Nobody expected that a Trump presidency could possibly become a reality, but it soon will be. Trump did so many things that nobody would've thought he could do. He turned so many states that lean on the blue side, and he turned them red. He came back after many blows during the campaign and managed to stay close to Clinton in the polls. Now, she, of course, didn’t help her case much with all the email controversy, but nonetheless, Trump kept it close and pulled out the upset. Although there are a few states still not finished tallying votes, like Alaska, New Hampshire, Michigan, Trump still has enough for the victory. As of November 9th, at 9 am, Trump has 276, while Clinton has 218. Then there's the popular vote, which is ridiculously close, which was projected, but both candidates have 48% of the popular vote, with Clinton only having a little more than 100,000 votes than Trump. The other things that happened last night are important too. The Republican party won a majority in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, which is a pretty big deal considering our President is also a Republican, but of course, these elections of Congressmen and women are overlooked in comparison to a Trump victory.
How did this happen? How did Trump manage to pull off this monumental victory, when it seemed Hillary was a shoe in to win? Well, there are a number of things that happened that resulted in a Trump victory. First things first, Trump won states that nobody thought he could win. These states are Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and a couple others that are likely to be Trump but aren't "official" yet. The biggest surprise, in my opinion, was Pennsylvania. Clinton had a pretty good-sized lead in Pennsylvania at one point during the election, but a late surge lifted Trump to win the state by a narrow margin. Once he won Pennsylvania, everyone knew Trump was going to win. Clinton needed Pennsylvania to have even the slightest chance at winning or even causing a tie, but she couldn't do it. What else caused this to happen? The Latino vote that multiple "experts" believed would show up and surge Clinton ahead, just simply didn’t show up. Then the inner cities that the media focused on, and said would give a late push, didn't show up either. There were many things that factored into why Trump pulled out a victory, but one of the biggest reasons is that America simply wanted something different. Like the media said during the election, Americans are tired of the government working for the elites and not for the people and this idea rang true when Trump was declared the winner.
What happens now? We're going to have a president that's been labeled a racist, a bully, a narcissist, and many more things, but what does this mean for the future of our country? To be honest, I don't know. I don't have an answer, but I can tell you what we shouldn't do. We shouldn't waste our time sulking and complaining about the results. I understand that not a lot of people like Trump and are scared to imagine what our countries going to turn into, but we can't spend our time focusing on this. We need to come together as a nation to get our country out of the rut it's in. We need to have faith that Trump will do everything he can to help our country. There are a lot of gray areas with Trump, but that doesn't mean we lose all hope for humanity. Based on Trump's victory speech, I believe there can be a sense of optimism as we move forward.
One thing is certain, our country needs a lot of prayer and we need to come together as one. We can't be a divided nation. We must trust God, no matter what happens next.
