The are 168 hours in a week. This number is always consistent. It is never going to randomly become 100 hours or jump up to 200 hours one week. These are the hours we are stuck within one week to do with what we wish. The real question for a college student is how many of those hours do we actually have for ourselves.
On average, a typical full-time college student takes around 15 credit hours, and for each credit hour, it is expected that you study 2 additional hours. So, subtract 15 hours and another 30 hours and you have 123 hours left in the week.
A typical human being is supposed to sleep eight hours a night. Subtracting 56 hours from the week for sleep, a college student is left with 67 hours in a week. Considering basic hygiene necessity would take up at least another 7 hours a week that leaves 60 hours a week.
In addition, the average college student works 20 hours a week leaving 40 hours left of a week. Subtract 7 hours a week for time spent on social media there is only 37 hours left in the week.
37 hours - the true value of a week for a college student. With less than 25% of the full week left up for our own free time, it's up to us to decide how we wish to spend this time. Are you going to spend it getting some extra studying to squeeze out the A in a difficult class or instead will you spend it going to some party and letting loose? Will you binge watch Netflix or go to the gym to get the perfect spring break body? Maybe you want to catch up on some sleep or go outside and play basketball. The possibilities are endless.
Now, the choice is up to you as a college student. What will you do with your 37 hours? How will you give value to the 37 hours that are actually yours?
