We all have our good and bad moments. That's just life! Nobody is perfect, and we all fall short in certain aspects of our lives. The way we handle situations and persevere through them is defined by our self-esteem and attitudes. Our self-esteem is the foundation to success in life. It is important that we know these questions to establish a healthy self-esteem: What is self-esteem? Why is it important? How do we create a healthy, everlasting, and beneficial self-esteem?

Self-esteem is defined as the confidence and satisfaction in yourself. A simple definition is "a feeling of having respect for yourself and your abilities." This means that you should feel good about who you are and your purpose on Earth, even if you do not know what it is yet. If your self-esteem is negative, then you need to reevaluate who you are. You are not the negative things that people tend to define you as.

Think about all of the things you are grateful for. It can be simple things such as living to see another day, having a parent or guardian to watch over you, or being able to attend school. You will be faced with many challenges in your lifetime, and dwelling on negative things does not help you get through these difficult situations.

The importance of self-esteem is that it defines who you are. In other words, your self-esteem makes or breaks you. It will determine how you act in tough situations and affects your body language in a positive and negative way. For example, a positive self-esteem would cause you to relax and smile more often, whereas a negative self-esteem would show you as unsettling and give unpleasant first impressions. With that being said, you can lose out on opportunities that are waiting for you if you keep a bad self-esteem.

Everybody wants to be happy and feel good about themselves. To establish a good, beneficial, and healthy self-esteem, you first need to figure out what makes you happy. You have certain things that you like such as shopping, going out to different places, playing a certain sport, etc. These things relax you and relieve a chunk of your stress.

Second, be patient with yourself, but have a working attitude. We all have goals set and are eager to live to see that day we finally achieve them, but until that day comes, you need to keep on focusing and working hard! All hard work pays off, and by continuous working instead of waiting, you are helping yourself and opening up more opportunities.

The final and most important thing to do is to believe in yourself. There will be times where you wonder if you belong in the position you are in or times where things do not seem to be in your favor. Nobody can believe in you stronger than you can. Just remember that everything is not always what it seems like it will be, and by you believing in yourself, you know that everything will always work out for you and realize that every storm in life is temporary. You will see that you are so close to achieving your goal, because nothing and nobody can stop you.

Realizing what self-esteem is, how it is important, and ways to establish a healthier self-esteem will help you achieve the goal of creating a positive self-esteem for yourself. This is a process that you have to practice a couple or even several times, but when your positive self-esteem is established, it will carry on throughout your life, and you will be able to overcome so many more obstacles than before.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
