The stiff back, the noodle arms, and the burning legs. Most people have had an encounter with this sometime in their life and probably did not enjoy it, but there is hidden value in digging that fence post of cleaning out that garage. Some prefer manual labor that is physically exhausting versus the option of mentally straining work. No matter male or female, strong or weak an appreciation for manual labor is essential to being a productive and respectful member of society.
An appreciation for hard manual labor makes citizens more productive. Whether or not one goes on to work a career where this manual labor is a daily task, it is important to appreciate and experience this labor. Manual labor pays off later even in a career where one is not asked to do these tasks. The job may be only mentally straining, but the principal remains constant. Appreciate the difficulty of the work knowing that you were chosen to complete this difficult task. The task could be building a deck on a scorching day in July or creating a mathematical model of oil reserves in the area. Both tasks are a taxing experience, but early on in life, it is difficult to appreciate hard mental tasks so physical strain is the way to appreciate exhaustion.
Most do not end up working a physically taxing career, but an appreciation for the labor these few perform makes the respect go both ways. I have personal experience with this in my business I ran in high school. I do not plan to mow lawns the rest of my life or go into the landscaping business, but my appreciation for this hard works means I will respect those who are in this profession my whole life. My summer job is a similar situation; my career plans have me carrying the job of my current boss after I finish school, but I am on the bottom of the totem poll for now. The work is hard, but the challenge is enjoyable. I want to appreciate the work of those who will eventually work for me rather than with me. A leader who cannot accomplish each of their employee's individual tasks is tough to respect. I strive to appreciate the hard work of others by taking part in it myself.
