The USA Begins With US

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. (Proverbs 13:34)

In the past couple years and especially recently, I cannot help but notice our “great” nation has taken a turn for the worst. Poor leadership, rioting, police brutality, murdering, and the list can go on and on. I read a tweet a few days ago from a woman living across the Atlantic Ocean that claimed the United States of America is becoming the worst nation in the world and she has no desire to visit. How sad is that?! I was raised to believe the U.S.A. is the greatest place to live and I should be proud to be an American. But, as I grow and mature and watch this nation crumble, I think about some rather substantial and popular cities during Bible times such as Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis chapter 19) and Babylon (Daniel chapter 5). Unlike the United States, these cities fell to ruins! The people of Sodom, Gomorrah, and Babylon decided to place God on the back-burner and welcomed SIN. Unfortunately, the U.S.A. is falling in step with these once-powerful cities and if not handled properly soon, we will have total chaos and fall in the hands of the wrong people.

In order to prevent this from happening, US as God’s people are to stand up and never be ashamed or afraid! It is very hard to keep the faith and lose confidence in God and ourselves during these hard times, but God reminds US over and over again that He will never leave US to fend for ourselves.

Look at verses such as Jeremiah 29:11, John 8:12, Romans 12:21, and Philippians 4:13.

I could include many, many more but I have three points I want everyone who follows God to take to heart; me included:

1. Pray, Pray, Pray

It cannot be stressed enough. Prayer is our way of talking directly to God through Jesus on a personal level. Anything that we are facing, scared of, or just talk about something with a friend, all you have to do is bow your head and pour your heart out. What a friend we have in Jesus! We need to flee worldly desires that distract US from seeing God! 70.6% of Americans claim to be Christians. Imagine if that 70.6% devoted time out of their days (maybe just two minutes) to pray for our nation. It is a start, but God wants and needs US to start somewhere and somehow!

Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

2. Be a Servant of Love

Recently I had the opportunity to participate in Decatur Work Camp in Decatur, Alabama. 200+ young Christians gathered paint, brushes, saws, and scrapers to help repair and repaint surrounding area homes, free of charge. The experience was very uplifting and worth the hard work to touch-up 20+ homes. God commands US to put others before ourselves. If we have love in our hearts and a servant mindset, we can change the world!

Let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interest of others. (Philippians 2:3-4)

3. The Bible is Our Greatest Weapon

There is so much controversy about guns and gun laws in America and honestly, I am sick of it! Why are we so quick to grab our guns and other “deadly” weapons for self-defense, when we have a weapon sharper than any two-edged sword collecting dust on our bookshelf? The word of God is the sword of the spirit (Ephesians 6:17)! In it contains the answers to solve ALL of our nation’s wickedness, if only we just blow the dust off and study! Is that so hard?

The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12)

I admit to being afraid of where our nation will stand in the upcoming months and years, but I find comfort knowing God is in control and will protect His people! Let US stand up for our GREAT God! One nation under God begins with US!

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.
