The Ups and Downs of Rainy Football Games

The Ups and Downs of Rainy Football Games

'Tis the season for rain. No, it's not spring yet, but in Texas, the weather will be any season it wants to be. Random rainy football games are bound to happen. There are some ups and some downs to rainy day games. It's a different experience for girls and guys.

For the ladies: There are many downsides to rainy days for us. We work hard to look good by doing our hair and makeup and picking out a decent outfit. The worst part about rain is not wearing water-proof makeup. You don't want guys to see the glamorous streaks of mascara down your face. The worst part is being shown on TV that way. Maybe you embrace the look of black streaks down your face, who knows?

When it comes to hair, I feel like everyone is in the same boat. Throw it up or keep it down, but either way, it is going to get soaked and stringy after a while. You might be lucky enough to have a hood, but somehow the humidity will get back at you and then you will have a frizzy mess. Sorry ladies, mother nature just doesn't like us.

Finally, we have the outfit. Nobody likes being wet and cold, but if you do like that feeling, good for you. Clothes like to absorb water and cling to our bodies, leaving us to shiver in misery. The worst material to have wetly sticking to your skin is probably polyester. It's awkward and just flat out uncomfortable. Another thing: if you wore a white top...well, it probably was not a good idea.

Is there anything good that we appreciate from a rainy game? Sure there is! If it is hot out, then you get a nice cool down. Other than that, there really is no other pro to it.

For the gents: You are lucky. You don't have to worry about makeup or hair or anything. Do guys have that much to worry about other than being cold? As I was standing in the rain at the TCU vs UT game, I noticed the girls huddling and trying to protect themselves from the rain. The guys just stood there having the time of their lives. I'm not saying that the girls were not having fun, but the guys were going crazy. Guys were taking off their shirts and waving them around. It was a fun environment since we don't experience many weather delays like this.

The only con for guys I saw from that game was the body paint. There were a few people painted up, but the rain won. The paint slowly started coming off. Then, as it got more wet, it started rolling off in chunks and hitting the ground in a nasty splat. It was not a pretty sight at all.

Rainy day football games are fun, but not everyone leaves happy. Being cold and wet can be miserable. All I can say is that you should enjoy the moment and have fun in the rain. It's like being a little kid again. Enjoy the moment because you won't get many more like it.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
